Top customer reviews
For starters, the first lag screw (included) I put in the wall broke off because it couldn't handle the torque of a drill set on low and after drilling pilot holes. Fortunately about 1/8" was left sticking out, so I was able to get a pair of vise grips on it to hand turn it to remove it. Now I had to reposition it. Later, a second screw would break while turning it by hand with a normal screwdriver.
Since this is shorter than 16" an anchor is needed for at least half of it (unless it's set dead center on a stud). Once the holes were marked and pre-drilled I attached it to the wall. Hung the TV on the wall and it was very visibly not even close to level. I took it down and the little level embedded in the mount still said it was level.
I blame myself for trusting this and not grabbing a normal one from the garage to test, as when I did i found one side to be level and the other not upon sliding a shorter one across the top -- thus the metal itself was bowed enough on top to make my TV unlevel. I had to use a new screw, fortunately this is for a 32" TV that doesn't weigh that much.
The photo shows the final result -- my TV is perfectly level and the included level is way off (and of course the photo I uploaded was turned 90 degrees by Amazon to boot. Fantastic).
I expected what I got for the 10 bucks I spent, but didn't expect it to take so long, with several frustrating trips back and forth to the garage to get more tools than necessary in order to get this thing up right. I usually don't skimp when it comes to stuff like this, but I figured with a simple mass-produced stamped out piece of metal and mostly good reviews that it wouldn't be so hard to deal with.
The mount is doing its job despite a few extra holes in the wall. I'd recommend that anyone who purchases one of these use your own level and don't trust the one included (which is set in to its spot so there's not much room for error when it was glued in).
It is pretty darn clever and works just as I wanted it to.
If you do not need your TV to tilt up or down or left or right it is perfect. The mounting bracket will only hold it flat to the wall no further adjustments are allowed.
I mounted inside of a cabinet using a couple of 2 X 4's with a 3/8 inch plywood span ( my internal wall)
The Visio 42 inch TV bolts fit perfectly on the two vertical supports and I used 4 1/4 X 20 bolts to bolt the horizontal plate to the plywood.
Worked as good as I would have hoped.
The mount description says max. VESA 300 x 260. This generally means a HDTV up to about 40" (200 x 200). I checked several 39"-40" HDTV's and they use 200 x 200. (My situation is a 32" back-lit LED LCD @ 10 lbs, very light).
The width of the mount is about 13" (337mm) so it won't span 2 studs (@ 16" center), but most NEW (2012 models) are in the 20-30lb range (CCFL's are at the higher weight spectrum while back-lit 40" can weight as little as 20lb w/o stand). As such, you can use 4 drywall plastic anchors (which were provided with my unit). For concrete or cement walls, I would suggest lead anchors which were NOT provided.
If you are able to position the mount over 1 stud (2 screws), and 2 other screws in drywall or plasterboard, and the HDTV is less than say 35 lbs, I think you would be safe for the long run.
Since I don't have a 42" TV, I don't know if those sets transition to 400 x 400 (one Walmart Sanyo 42" @ 33lb needs 400 x 400) so I would say the mount manufacturer is being too liberal in describing it suitable for 42" and up to 88lbs.
Bottom line, this is cheap & good mount for up to 40" (200 x 200) and up to 30 lbs (my guess, if no stud); ove 30 lbs, I would look for 1 stud before buying this mount. If you meet this, $13 and you're good to go. If 42" or more, or rated at 400 x 400, step up to the $25 mounts (look for free shipping) from other Amazon "basic mount" sellers -- the non-adjustable mounts are about 30mm from the wall, and the adjustable tilts are further out to provide needed clearance.
The steel is of the right heft gauge for the newer, lighter weight TV's, and the mounting screws seem complete.
* Holds my TV on the wall.
* FOR CEMENT WALLS ONLY
* Bubble level is inaccurate
* Brackets didn't properly fit my TV (Vizio E400i-B2) even though VESA dimensions are within range
With a bit of tweaking this bracket did the job of holding my TV to the wall, which I guess in short means it served its purpose. However it didn't really do it as it was supposed to, or per the instructions. The first thing I noticed is that the instructions state this is for concrete walls only, since I imagine the bulk of people ordering this are in a basic American household with drywall that could be an issue. Fortunately my TV is light at 17.5 lbs and I was able to get two anchors in a stud so I'm not too concerned with the stability for me.
What could have been a bigger issue is that the bubble level that is built into the bracket is off. I had another level with me to draw lines and noticed when leveling the bracket it didn't seem correct, testing with the other level (which I know is accurate) showed I was right. If I hadn't had the other level I may have had a crooked TV.
The mounting brackets also did not properly fit my TV with a 100mm x 100mm VESA mounting pattern. No matter the placement of the brackets I was only able to get 1 screw into them, it would not like up with the second hole.
Overall I was able to make this work but I would not recommend it to someone else or purchase it again.
