Cherry Mx-Blue : Tactile, clicky switches

MX Blue switches are click-style switches that provide much more substantial audible and tactile feedback with each keypress. Click-style key-switches tend to have higher reset positions and require greater actuation force. Gamers and writers will enjoy these switches.

Clicky switches add a deliberately louder ‘click’ sound to the existing tactile bump, allowing for greater typing feedback. This makes it easier to know that you’ve hit the activation point. This is achieved by a more complicated mechanism, with a blue plunger and a white slider. When the actuation point is reached, the slider is propelled to the bottom of the switch and the click noise is produced.

I've come to really enjoy this product. I needed a mech that was suitable for the office and was compatible with mac, and this is one of the only products that I could find that had the mode switch for the OS and properly labeled keycaps. The Cherry MX Clears are fantastic. They take some getting used to, coming from other linear or clicky switches; the switches are a bit harder to type in but still respond to each keystroke without making an obnoxious amount of noise.

That's all the pros. Now, there are a couple of cons:
- The bundled screw-on angling feet are not convenient for transport. I don't usually spend this amount of money on a keyboard and not take it with me wherever I happen to be working that week. I would've liked something that could be easily removed to pack flat, but I suppose that's not an issue for everyone.

- The keycaps are of great quality, for sure, but not being able to replace them because of the odd sized delete and escape keys is a bit of a turn off. Also, the number keys have a completely different font style and look to them. I can't understand for the life of me why. Color scheme is a bit cheesy. They look like legos. Choices are: all around grey scale, or very lego like. Again, not an issue for everyone.

Bonus! I found a case that -sort of- fits the product and leaves some space for the cable. Hard shell case that fits great in a backpack.

What a Keyboard!

I just got this keyboard yesterday and I must say it is amazing, I usually don’t write many reviews but felt this deserved one. Plus I get to type it out on the new Keyboard! Hooray!

My only experience with a mechanical keyboard is with cherry MX browns. I’ve only used full size keyboards as well. So I was pretty nervous getting a 75% board with heavier key in the Cherry MX Clears. I am so happy that I did. I am a pretty heavy handed typer, and really ‘Punch’ the keys. With the MX Clears I really don’t bottom out any more, so creates is a very quiet typing experience.

This Vortex board screams quality as soon as you hold it in your hands. It feels lightyears ahead of my Logitech G710+ in terms of quality, typing experience, and aesthetics. Votrex even provides extra keycaps, probably a minimum of $30 dollar value. The Keycaps feel amazing. This is my first time experiencing thick PBT keycaps. I don’t know how to describe them, except to say I love them. They have a smooth finish, feel very high quality which makes a satisfying sound, and pleasing typing experience. It makes me wish that I had a paper to write just so I can type on it! Its that good.

I really like that this keyboard is ‘plug and play’ I plan on traveling with it for work, and the fact that its driverless is great. I will highly recommend this keyboard, and will not hesitate to buy from Vortex in the future, because of the excellent quality of product they produce. Maybe a Pok3r keyboard in another year or two… RIP wallet.

The dislikes?
If I must say anything I don’t like about the board it is about 2 keys. No, it’s not the ESC and Delete in the top row. It’s the F and J keys. This is the first board I’ve used where the home row does not have any bumps for your fingers. When I start to type, I will sometimes start on H, probably just because of the compactness of the board. Ive been using it for under 24 hours, so will take some adjustments, but miss the bumps so far.

Lastly, is the quality of the included micro USB cable they included. I think if Vortex included a braided USB, it would put the product over the moon. But it is not, it’s just a flimsy black one. I’ll probably find a braided USB that feels like it matches this high-quality keyboard.
These are the only 2 things that I have fault with right away. Even with these 2 gripes, I feel this keyboard deserves 5+stars.

TL;DR: 10/5 would empty wallet again.

I've been using the keyboard for work and travel with it for ~3 weeks now. I still love it. It's not noisy in an office environment, in fact I think I am quitter with this board than with the membrane keyboard I had. Very good portability.
One of the dislikes I had for the board was that the F&J keys did not have the "lip" that normal keyboards have, making it more difficult to find the home row. Instead what Vortex has done is make those keys ever so slightly more concave than the rest of the keys. This way, you can find the home row, without having the ugly bumps on the keyboard... I now love this feature.

The stock USB cord is cheap and have decided to buy a cord that matches the quality of the keyboard. :)

Important note: for those who have trouble with removing the keycaps. DO NOT JUST PULL THEM!!! Be patient and wiggle them back and forth. It is the only way to properly remove keycaps. I thought the same thing but kept at it. Example, to remove the ESC key for the first time. I had to wiggle it back and forth while pulling up some for about a FULL minute. Have had no issues. Patience is a virtue!

As mentioned keep in mind the oddly sized Esc and Del key if you plan to swap keycaps, but if not this is a great board. The MX Clear switches are quiet and exactly what I wanted.I actually knocked a star off not for the odd-sized keys, but rather for their terrible documentation/support site. The keyboard just works when plugged in, but to use any of the additional programming functionality you must visit their site and jump between two manuals for two different keyboards (though there are several variants of the second, and they do not even specify which). In addition to that I ran their firmware updater day one which found a .01 revision update, but there are no details whatsoever as to what was changed/fixed. So while this is a great keyboard from my initial use, I would go so far as to guess support will not be great if you were ever to need it.

Not gonna lie, I bought vortex race 3 simply because it looks good. And oh boy it looks as good as in picture in real life.

Let's skip the good part and talk about some drawbacks

Cons:
- While the ESC key does not bother me at all, I find the surprise how the shorter than usual right shift key bothers me. Especially when you try to type ":", so for first time 75% buyer like me, it takes a while to get use to.
- The feet come with it are really short, doesn't help create a slope at all. For people want type in a angle, this could be a real deal breaker. I simply deal with buy rest it on my wrest rest pad.
- The cap lock light is really ugly white light that "leaking" from the gap between the keys, kind ruins the look of the keyboard
- The software is a nightmare to use. Firmware are point to all the random places.
- For a $200 board the cable comes with it feels cheap and no key puller included so you should order 1 with the board if you want use those pretty color key caps included.

Would have given it 5 stars if the additional feet provided to raise the back of the keyboard were twice the height of the actual ones (it's still too flat on the desk with them) and if the legends were all centered properly on the caps (some are slightly offset). When you pay premium prices for a keyboard, you expect this level of attention to details.

On the other hand, I just love the typing feel of this keyboard! It is so effortless and quiet with the Cherry MX Silent Red switches. I much prefer it over my Filco Majestouch 2 TKL with Cherry MX Browns. Even though the DSA layout (even height of all keys) needs a bit of time getting used to if you're coming from a more profiled keyboard, it's a dream to type on whether you're a typist or a programmer.

Overall, I do like the keyboard. The switches (clear) make it very easy to avoid bottoming out. However, most of the keycaps are very difficult to remove, and there are other issues with the quality. Not all the keys align perfectly along the edges, some sit a tad higher than others. The printing on the legends is not stellar, especially on the modifier symbols for the number row. And worse, one of the screws holding down the top plate appears to have come slightly stripped, and then I realized that the plate was actually a bit high in this area. I've uploaded a video showing the stripped screw + raised plate, and a my right arrow key that sits high. Edit: Upon further review, pushing down this top right corner of the board causes the front to raise up. Then I look and see the screw for that area of the board is way out! Pictures included.
