Top Customer Reviews
I bought these in 2013 (note this year). They have been used weekly since then, and I have been 100% satisfied with the optics quality, and the workmanship of the product. Around May 24th, 2016 the binoculars took a bit of a fall. My super luck powers were working at full force that day, and they hit the hardwood floor at just the right angle to break the hinge coupling.
It was entirely my butterfingered fault (in fact, I may have actually had butter on my fingers...) so I packed my injured binoculars up and sent them as instructed to the repair facility. I figured that it would cost about $100.00 or so to repair. So be it.
On May 27th, I was notified that Vortex Optics was sending me a package. "Odd, " I thought, "They never asked for repair payment..." Maybe they were sending back my broken binoculars as "too expensive to repair". On June 1st I received the package from Vortex Optics.
It was to my complete surprise to open the box to find a NEW set of binoculars in retail packaging! Understand:
- 3 year old purchase.
- Broken entirely at MY fault.
- I was ready to pay for the repair.
- Vortex Optics: Nevermind - We'll just send you a new set.
Stop looking. This company will stand by their product, and support their customers.
Vortex offered incredible customer service and resolved the issue immediately. I had a replacement in 3 days, just in time for my vacation. No more Optics Planet for me.
These Binoculars are incredible. They have a wider FOV than the competitors and the optics are fantastic. They are made in the USA by Americans. With an "UNCONDITIONAL LIFETIME WARRANTY" and stunning optics, I am now a vortex products buyer.
Kinda bummed I was enthused, when someone on a popular archery forum sent me a private message telling me to try out this particular binocular. He stated the quality was that of much more expensive glass and for the money could not be beat. Well, I had to try them out so I drove to a local store where I could test a wide range. I tried many other brand's in this price range (as well as a couple in the $500) and to my untrained eye these where just as good as anything else.
I have a very limited knowledge of optics and the intricacies that make a $1,500 set different than a $500 set. With that said, I am going to try my best to write this review from an average user's perspective.
QUALITY - 5/5 - I could not be happier. Using these in low light has been game changing for me. I find myself glassing at first light where I can barely see with my own eyes and these preform great. This is a shock to me, as my old $50 binoculars never got taken off the peg until there was plenty of light. The feel heavy and have a nice rubberized coating.
CLARITY (For the money) - 5/5 - It should be stated that I can't compare these against a $1,500 set of binoculars. With that said, I can't imagine any better clarity for the money. I compared these side by side in the store with about 5 other models of varying price and there were no noticeable differences. The difference in clarity versus my old sub $150 binoculars is staggering. I can't believe I hunted for so long without these. Everything is so sharp and clear.
WARRANTY - 5/5 - Lifetime no questions asked, what more can you want? Hunting from a treestand this was a huge upside to me as I manage to drop about everything I hunt with. While I haven't had to use this warranty for a major repair, I lost a lens cover on my first trip using these. I called up vortex fully expecting to pay for a replacement, and I was shocked they sent me a new set at no cost. While it's not a big expense customer service is all about the little things. So far I am a very happy customer.
All in all, I have not been happier with a recent hunting purchase. For the money these were hands-down the most impressive set of binoculars that I tried. I'm sure there are advantages of buying a more expensive set, but to this hunter on a budget my eyes could not tell enough of a difference to sway me otherwise. Vortex has made a quality product, and they are backing it up with a quality warranty.
A big plus with Vortex is that came with nice accessories like the cover caps for the front and rear lens, neck strap and neoprene carrying case. Saves me money from having to buy those seperately. It has a very comfortable rubberized feel yet very solid and has a hefty weight to it. The thing feels like a tank and can take a beating. Dropped mine a few times from setting it down on a chair and once from having it on top of my car and forgetting that i put it up there. Still works like nothing happened. Best part is that i didn't have to spend a arm and a leg for a great set of optics. $1000 for binos is just plain rediculous when you can just buy these and are as good as the expensive ones.
The wider view is also a big plus. Probably the biggest reason i choose this over another Nikon. People useally pay more for this but i was supprised to find out that this Vortex model had a wider feild of view compared to its competitors in the same price range. And the dipoter setting to match your eyes are also a great feature, espacillay those who doesn't have 20/20 vision on both eyes. Can't say enough good things about this bino. Well worth the money.
