I have been iffy on The Used in recent years. I loved their first two albums: their self titled and "In Love and Death". "Take it Away", "I Caught Fire", "On my Own", "Maybe Memories", "Box Full of Sharp Objects", "Choke Me"- all incredible songs. However "Lies for the Liars" was an inconsistent album, having some really good songs (liar liar) and some pretty bad ones (smother me), and with the exception of maybe "Blood on my Hands" and "Empty With You", "Artwork" was a largely forgettable album in my honest opinion.

To be clear however, I am not some bellyaching fanboy, which is what most people who criticized "Artwork" seemed to be (often unfairly) labeled as. I have no problem with a band maturing and trying to do new things; all the best ones do. Just when it came down to it, I simply didn't enjoy the vast majority of the music on artwork.

So for the most part after "Artwork" I kinda forgot about The Used. They have a history of taking a long time between albums so I figured I had a few years before I would be listening to them again. I didn't even know until last week that the used were releasing this record. So with the open mind I always bring into music, I preordered it on amazon. However, Zune Music Pass released the album a bit early so I have already listened to the album in its entirety multiple times. All I have to say is that it is really, really good, reversing a troublesome trend where to me The Used's albums were progressively worse.

"I Come Alive" is the kickoff track. It's a really great song and gets you pumped up, of course in a completely different way than their earlier albums' first tracks did. Nevertheless, it was a great a kickoff track, with brilliantly performed vocals, especially toward the end.

Great album! 'Vulnerable' truly has a perfect mix of the music style Used fans know and love along with a positive feel to it. There are catchy "gross pop" anthemy songs like 'I Come Alive', 'Put me Out', 'Give me Love', and 'Moving On'. There are songs like 'Hands and Faces', and 'Machine'(bonus song) that are fun and "new sounding" with different interesting change ups throughout the songs. 'This Fire', is a beautiful empowering song. I love hearing strings and piano mixed in, it's very reminiscent of 'In Love and Death' in that way.'Now That Your Dead' is such a stand out song, the intro is creepy and movie esque then it just rocks the whole way through. "You're not with Jesus Christ, you're just gone" Badass.

'Kiss it Goodbye' is another hard hitting song from beginning to end, Bert's beatboxing at the end of it cracks me up. The loveable melodic balady songs on this record are of course 'Together Burning Bright' and 'Getting Over You'. 'Hurt No More' is one of my favorites too, it's a sad but lovely song. Very one of a kind song on this album. I would say this album falls second place for me. 'In Love and Death' will always be number one just because of the sentimental attachment I have to it, and what it got me through by the power of music.

'Vulnerable' is a 5/5 for me. Bert's voice sounds strong and full of range. His screams hit hard. My only gripe is the album cover is kinda plain. I love when they collaborated with Alex Pardee on other covers.

This album lacks the unfiltered passion of their self-titled debut, the experimentation of 'In Love', the polish of 'Lies', and the unafraid, unapologetic approach tracks like 'Back of Your Mouth' brought from 'Shallow Believer'.

The Used again reinvented themselves with 'Artwork', but 'Vulnerable' feels like a watered down continuation of that process. They seem to experiment with some contemporary elements - mostly dubstep backings on several tracks - but fail to really break away from sounding overly formulaic and over-produced.

Where is the relate-able storytelling like 'Buried Myself Alive'? The not-afraid-of-bass 'I'm a Fake? Even 'Artwork', their most criticized offering, manages to give us a more mature and evolved sound. 'Vulnerable' leaves me wanting more - more complexity, more experimentation, more interesting music. Instead, I'm given what essentially sounds like very similar but watered down versions to songs we've already heard.

Hugely disappointing - I have been a fan for quite a while and very much enjoyed their evolution as musicians. Looking forward to their rebound, if it occurs.

I owned their first album then bought some more. I was hoping they were still going to create music and here in 2012 they have released another great album. If you have listened to some of their other albums go buy this one, you will not be dissappointed.

I've been a Used fan for a long time now and their new album does not disappoint. I'm glad to see they brought the fun back, since Artwork was a little too dark and drab for my taste. Vulnerable is like a mix of "Lies for the Liars", "In love and death" and "Artwork (slightly)." My favorite songs are "Hands and Faces" "Now that your dead" "Shine" and "Hurt No one." But hands down the best song is the bonus track "Machine." That song is totally worth buying the deluxe version. I love it because it's so theatrical and a little different from their usual songs. I love when bands are not afraid to try new sounds. The Used are really in a class of their own and they continue to prove it with every new album.
