Saves us a trip to the vet

Our dogs are on a special diet so we need to monitor their weight. They are over 100 lbs each so getting them to the vet every week can be difficult. Their weight on this scale was very close to the last time we weighed them at the vet so I'm sure it's accurate. The only thing that's a little tricky is that the only way for me to keep them still is to have them sit on the scale and our dogs are so big that sometimes they cover the numbers. It's easy enough to move them off the display and it's easier to have them sit still at home than at the vet - I bribe them with a treat and they sit long enough to get an accurate reading. Something that may help if your dog won't stay still is to teach them to sit and "look" when they're not on the scale by holding a treat in front of your forehead. If you can get them to stay that way for a few seconds off the scale it should work when they're on the scale. As long as you can keep your pet still for 5-10 seconds you can get an accurate reading, but they really need to be completely still. Definitely worth the investment - saves us time and no excuses for not getting a weight at least once per week.

It's small

It's great that this scale weighs up to 225lbs, but good luck getting a dog of that size onto it. The scale seems well made, though mine does seem off by about 2lbs (this was off by about 2lbs for all three of my dogs), but it's still very cold from being on my porch, so perhaps as it warms up it'll be more accurate (the instructions do specify a temperature range for operation).

I was hoping to be able to weigh some larger dogs at my grooming salon, but due to the size of the scale, a large dog would have to be very cooperative in order to fit and remain still on the scale.

My own dog weighs 62lbs. He is a lean dog, so he's larger than most dogs his weight, but still- he's nowhere near the high end of the range. You'd have a lot of difficulty trying to weigh a large dog on this scale. My dog is very cooperative but still had trouble getting all feet on the scale while standing. Sitting, he fits pretty well.

Accurate Scale for Dogs

I bought this scale for my Golden Retreiver Puppies that were growing to big for the small scale. I weighed them on this scale, then took them to the vet office and their scale red the exact same thing to the tenth so I am very happy with it. It fits my full size Golden Retreiver on it as well as smaller puppies. It is easy to turn on and use, very simple and fast. I recommend this scale for this purpose.

Great scale

Large enough for an animal to rest easy on. I have weighed cats to German Shepherd sized dogs on this scale. Very accurate calibration if properly placed (i.e on a firm surface--do not place scale on carpeted area as you will not get an accurate measurement) The scale provides pound and ounce weight or kilogram on a large easy to read digital display at the top front center of the scale. The scale is thin and easy to place without taking up too much space or being in the way. Glad I invested in the scale. I do pet rescue and the scale sees a lot of use. Good investment.

Great pet scale

I have used this scale for my pets and it is accurate and well made. I highly recommend it. I am an elderly person and the large digital readout helps me see the weight easily. If you find your pet is moving around too much, you can put your crate on the scale and zero the scale out; then put your pet in the crate to get an accurate reading.

I've been needing a Vet quality scale for a long time, but the price for that quality was always out of my range until now. This scale is perfect. I have 7 dogs of varying weight and sizes from 25 to 50 pounds, Corgis to Aussies. Each one fits perfectly on the scale. It's quiet, stable & accurate. Being digital, there's no trying to read the numbers while the dial is moving. Can't say enough about it. I home cook for them, so maintaining accurate weights is important, not to mention accuracy for heartworm meds etc. Oh, and it looks good too!

Fine for Large Dogs if....

This scale is fine for large dogs. But...

1. your dog needs to know a Wait or Stand command. Heck you can simply train your dog a Target/touch command (follow your palm with his nose) to stand calmly on to the scale. (There are lots of internet sites that explain how to train these).

2. Don't put the scale right up against a wall. That should help a lot. Humans don't like to face right up against a wall even when we understand why we need to. Dogs get squirrelly when we make them do so. Give your dog at least 5--6 inches from the wall. If you buy a bigger scale, it's going to take more floor space anyhow. Better yet, put the scale in the middle of the room to weigh if you can; you can slide it against the wall for storage. (Or put it back in the box, which is what I do).

3. A tippy scale on an uneven floor will make a dog nervous. And it won't register the right weight anyhow. Shim your scale. Drag it around on the floor until it doesn't tip. That's why my scale is stored in the box -- because the floor in my bathroom isn't perfectly level but the floor in my kitchen is. I put the scale down. Now, as soon as he sees it, my big dog (90lb GSD) walks up. Waits. I register his weight. He steps off. He's a young squirrelly dog, but he can stand still for a few seconds to get weighed. I'm sure yours can too!
