The cast of characters in this book are entertaining and I did love chevelley. She is quite the badass but has a softer side.
This journey is a heated second-chance between Xavier and Chevelley but what will the outcome be? These once lovers are now enemies and are still inflicting harsh wounds. Portions are very tragic while others are almost sweetly romantic. The flashes back to their past were a great addition and gave an extra layer to this story. These scenes were placed in perfect spots to enhance the present situations. These snippets also provided insight on the simmering tension between Xavier and Chevelley.
Chevelley and Xavier are not suffering through this turf war alone. I feel the author paved the way for the secondary characters to have their own stories, which should be interesting to read. Overall this was a quick moving book that was pretty exciting. I got through War in one-sitting because there was never a point I wanted to stop. If you enjoy a novel with plenty of angst, drama, and intensity… give this one a try.
I feel that the author took a fantastic story with tons of potential and made it even better than that. Yes, there definitely was a main character but she gladly shared the stage with many others. It was pretty easy to get a sense of who had what personality and whether or not you wanted to love or hate them...all, except one.
I wasn't quite sure how this story was going to go. X had me on shaky ground and I didn't know if he was going to be a good guy or bad at the end. Heck, I didn't know if good and/or bad people were going to come out of no where. Who was lying to who? Jeez, I even started suspecting a couple of her crew members!
Now, I'm not going to tell you whether or not my suspicions were correct or if I was just paranoid. I will tell you that I loved the book and every dang moment of anticipation I had. I would have loved to also give this a 10 page review it deserves but I'm not all about sharing spoilers. All I can tell you is that this one should never be a regret!
I didn't love it but I didn't hate it.
There is a war brewing and Chevelley finds herself right smack in the middle. On one side is her crew, her family and on the other is her nemesis Roman but also the one man she thought she loved, Xavier. Only one side will win and the cost of losing is death.
Along the way we meet Chevelley crew of men that she has been left in charge of. We also learn about her past and her relationship with Xavier. He is not the same person that she loved, now he is cold and heartless. The man he once was is no longer, but Chevelley is having a hard time dealing with him up-close and personal.
The story had good flow and there is a lot of things happening to keep my interest. It was well written but I found the number of characters distracting at times and I didn't love our heroine whose POV the book is in. I enjoyed the story and to want to know what was coming next. I felt the compelling need to see the story through to the end and what sort of twists were in store. I needed to know which side would come out on top and what lines get blurred along the way. I expected the book to be darker and grittier than it was, not that it was light and fluffy just not what I expected. I also felt that some scenes where unnecessary along the way and the "wrap-up" came pretty quick. All-in-all, I thought the book was decent and will be checking out her Escort Series.
Meet Xavier, lethal, badass, gorgeous and sexy! He also worked with his Father in the Protection Racket business until he died. Upon his death, Xavier was given an ultimatum by a man named Roman, who was the most evil man to walk the earth. This ultimatum gave him no choice but to work for Roman in his racket business. Roman’s goal was to put Chevelley out of business. He did not want competition. The only way to put people out of business in their world was to kill them off one by one by one!
This is a story about war between these two businesses. This is also a story about Chevelley and Xavier who before his father’s death were lovers. They had not seen each other for many years until they confronted each other with this impending war started by Roman. They were on opposing
sides, but could they forget everything they had meant to each other, would death be their final fate? How far would a man go to protect the woman he loves?
If you are expecting a hearts and flowers erotic romance novel, this book is not for you. Isabel Lucero did a 180 with this change of genre. This book is hardcore, it is dangerous, it is murder, it is bloody and I loved it and think she gave us one hell of a great read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!
Rosie’s Book Heaven was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
