This provides a more accurate representation of feel and noise when testing the switches. 6 of each type of our sound dampening O-rings are also included. Does as expected and feels like a very sturdy, well made product. It allows me to test out the feel of 4 major switches (red, black, brown, blue) and 2 harder to find switches (clear, green) all in one go.

While it obviously feels different from a keyboard, it is still nice to try them all out with or without an o-ring on before spending all the money on a board with a type of switch and being stuck with it.

Red - Silent Smooth
Black - Resistant Silent Smooth
Blue - Clicky Bump
Green - Resistant Clicky Bump
Brown - Silent Bump
Clear - Resistant Silent Bump

*Silent makes no sound if not bottoming out
*Clicky has an actual sound you can hear when you start to press the key down
*Smooth feels the same from the moment you start pushing the key until you decide to stop
*Bump has a bump you can feel part way into your keypress
*Resistant requires more pressure to push

Well worth the price!

Both my son and I are in the market for new mechanical keyboards. I am sick of the cheap keyboards that stick and break and he always buys high end keyboards. I don't mind chancing it when I pay $30 for a keyboard but I want the Cherry MX switches to feel exactly the way I want them to feel if I am going to be dropping a good bit of money on a keyboard. I type for sometimes 17 hours a day so it's really important.

My son chose this WASD 6-Key Cherry MX Switcher for both of to try to see which type of key style we liked best. I thought he was crazy to spend $16.00 on a little row of different switches but now that I have tried it out, I realize how important it is to know what you're getting before you purchase a good keyboard.

This unit represents different types of Cherry MX switches so you can tell ahead of time how the keyboard will respond to your touch. We both decided on which we liked best and have begun our search for the perfect mechanical keyboard for us. This was a great help and well worth the price.

Before spending $100+ on a mechanical keyboard that can last you a lifetime, you need to figure out what kind of keys you want. Unless you know of a local store that stocks various types of mechanical keyboards, or unless you know a lot of friends with them, it pays to get a tester kit.

Keys included:
-Cherry MX Red. Low actuation force, silent, smooth. The most popular switch for gaming, it has the lowest force required to hold the key down (just imagine how long you hold "w" to move forward in most games, this key won't tire your hand). One of the most popular keys, used in many gaming keyboards.
-Cherry MX Black. High actuation force, silent, smooth. Basically a slightly more resistant red, a matter of personal preference.
-Cherry MX Blue - Medium actuation force, clicky, loud. Very popular for typists who don't mind annoying their neighbors.
-Cherry MX Green - High actuation force, clicky, loud. A stiffer blue, again it's personal preference. Blue/Green are the closest keys to the legendary IBM buckling spring keyboards, loud and good for typists.
-Cherry MX Brown - Low actuation force, quiet tactile bump. Can be viewed as a compromise between the Red and Blue, typists generally prefer the tactile "bump" feeling, yet the key is quiet so it won't annoy your neighbors. One of the most common key types, as it is used by both gamers and typists.
-Cherry MX Clear - High actuation force, quiet tactile bump. One of the most rare key types. Basically a quiet version of the Blue/Green. If you dream of an IBM keyboard with quiet keys, this is your best bet. Due to the strong force, this is much less quiet than the Brown.

Pros:
-Solid construction. The 6 keys are properly affixed and don't wobble. The metal bracket is good too- many mechanical keyboards have metal bases, so it's good to know how the sound can reverberate.
-Everything is included. Six keys, with clear keycaps so you can see which key is which, and they even included two sets of rubber o-rings that prevent keys from "bottoming out", a popular way to make keys quieter and more gentle on your fingers.
-Good key choice. The keys present- including the relatively rare MX Clear- highlight all the major styles of Cherry MX key.
-Full keys. Nothing was lost, so each key has its contact points intact, meaning they can easily be placed into any keyboard or wired to another project such as an Arduino board. When you get your mechanical keyboard, you'll have six replacement keys and spacers.
-Makes a neat toy, you can easily use this as a finger exerciser.

Cons:
-I'd like to have a variety of keycaps installed, such as ABS and PBT materials, although this is probably for uniformity.

Overall: Highly recommended. Spending a little now, could save you a lot down the road

Solid construction, and the o-rings are a great addition.

I ended up going with browns, and black o-rings (same as blue, but I have a b&w thing going).

Good for general feel, but wobbly switches reduce true accuracy

This product gets three stars because it did help me make a decision but it doesn't provide an accurate feel for each switch as-is. I must mirror others' complaints about the switches being mounted far too loosely in the rack. I didn't realize this was an issue until after I had made my decision on which keyboard to buy. When I used my thumb to hold the switches steady from underneath, the feel of pressing the keys down changed significantly. What I thought was a muddy feeling in the brown switch ended up just being the switch itself moving around on the rack. This product can help you get a general feel for each key, but it won't help you feel out subtleties if you're on the fence about more than one type of switch. To do that requires modifying it to make the switches firm and stable, or removing the switches entirely and re-mounting them yourself onto something else.

If you are unfamiliar with Cherry switches, this little tester is well worth the cost as it will give you a really good idea as to which switches you like. Try not to be influenced by the opinion of others, like those who say red switches are bad for typing or that greens will tire you out.

A little tip: When I got this I opened it in a dark room where I couldn't see the switch color and tried each while mindfully focusing on the feel. While I do know which switches click or have tactile feedback etc, the object here was to emulate as closely as possible a "blind taste test" so I could make a decision based more on feel than what the crowd recommends.

I'd strongly suggest folks pick this up and pass it along to friends once you've gotten your use from it.
