Used for draining kids swimming pool, works great!

Used for draining kids swimming pool, works great!
During the summer, we typically get a large inflatable pool for the kids, but I feel guilty about the water used. I decided to try this to distribute the old water to the lawn and shrubs rather than just dumping it and making mud (we keep the pool off of the lawn). Besides the fact that a large pool is impossible to drain without breaking your back, using buckets, or deflating completely, putting the water to good use seemed like a good idea.I just took this pump out of the box, hooked it up, and it worked great! I did not buy any special attachments. I hooked it right into a regular hose using the included adapter. I did try to hook up a different hose mid-way through and suddenly the pump wasn't working! I realized that I had disconnected the power, pulled the pump out of the water, reconnected the hose, and re-submerged the pump, then plugged it in. All the right steps, but it wasn't priming. The first time I put it in, I noticed some bubbles coming up from where the hose joins and it had worked fine. This time no bubbles came out (I must have gotten a better seal...but too good I guess). To fix it, I just unscrewed the hose a bit, watched for some bubbles (to let more water into the pump I assume), re-fastened the hose while the pump was underwater, and plugged in again. This time it worked! So:Make sure the pump is under water BEFORE you hook up the hose to ensure enough water is inside before turning it on.The only con I have is that is is pretty slow output. I guess the pool is pretty big, but I expected more of a "gush". It's less output than a hose from the house would create. So it takes longer to drain the pool than it does to fill up, but I'm happy that the drain water is not being wasted. And the price is right - not too expensive. Plus it will be handy around the house for other purposes at some point I'm sure.

I needed an "Idiot Proof" portable Pump to empty a "plumbing challenged" bathtub and also to remove water from our basement when our sump pump couldn't. My do-it-yourself projects, don't really turn out all that well, so I spent quite some time trying to find an easy to use pump, that was submersible, portable, and could drain water either a small distance or several yards quickly. I read reviews by other Amazon customers, and also contacted Wayne and other pump manufacturers for their recommendations. After dithering back and forth I decided to rely on Dr Pace's review and re-review and purchase the Wayne RUP160 and the suggested drainage hose. Since the pump comes fully assembled, set up is basically attaching the drainage hose. Since the distance from tub to toilet is 3') I opted to use the included adapter and cut a 4' length of garden hose. It works great!! It emptied a claw footed bathtub of water in 2 min. I quickly discovered that the pressure thru a 3/8" hose a distance of 3' is such that holding the hose in place and properly directed keeps the water from splashing out all over the floor. Something that both of my college age children fail to grasp - I suspect intentionally. However, this little pump is so much fun to watch I've offered to empty the tub even after their shower's (you can probably tell, I don' get out much).I haven't had to use it in the basement yet, but by using the larger drainage tube (which should take less than 5 minutes) I expect to have the same great results. It's important to remember there is no on/off button so, you need to stay close to unplug the unit when it's done draining.

I've been using this unit for 2 years now to pump rain water from a 550 gallon reservoir uphill (about 10 feet) to my garden. I have a very restrictive setup with 100' of 1/2" hose and a spigot that necks down to 3/8", so actual pump volume is much higher than what I typically see. I still see about 2.4 gallons per minute, or about a gallon every 24 seconds, with all the above restriction and at about ten feet above the pump and tank. This pump deals with shingle grit, bugs, pine needles and other junk that comes off of the roof of the house and doesn't miss a beat. I also forgot to drain the remaining water from my tank in the winter of 2021 and my tank froze solid with the pump in it and still functioned flawlessly when it thawed out. I don't recommend freezing your pump in a block of nasty rainwater ice, but if you do, you'll probably be fine.

I've used and abused this pump for 7 years now. Its tough. It survived being completely submerged and frozen solid for a week. It has sucked up acorn bits and oak tassels. It has been baked in the sun and covered with scum. Still running strong.
Will recommend.
Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2021
Description states that it pumps "up to 3000 gallons per hour". Of course I didn't believe that would be accurate but the actual performance of this pump is pretty pathetic. I bought it to lower the water level in my in-ground pool after heavy rains. I placed the pump on the top step which puts the pump in about 8" of water and initially I had it running through a 50' hose to a drain. The pump was delivering 180 gallons per hour. The drain is only 20' away so I cut the garden hose to see if the performance would improve. It did. Now it's pumping 240 gallons per hour but that's still pretty lame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Service tech daily use
Reviewed in Canada on December 18, 2022
I'm a hottub service technician and I use this pump to drain atleast 3 hottubs every week. I bought it in 2016 and it's still going just fine in 2022. I leave it in the back of my work truck to get banged around and frozen etc. Fantastic pump. 5 stars for sure. I'm writing a review now because I don't want this pump to get discontinued or something so I'm buying my backup right now.
