IntelliCut Technology

The WG788 is equipped with patented IntelliCut technology, which ensures that power is there when you need it. No more bogging down in tough conditions when mowing tall grass or mulching leaves. Simply set the dial to Power when cutting through the tough stuff, and switch the dial to Quiet when mowing a side lawn next to your neighbor's house. Now you can mow the lawn at almost any time of day without irritating the neighbors or disturbing your children's naps, yet still have access to a powerful chopping mower when facing high weeds.

Operation and Performance

The Worx WG788 is ideal for large yards with grass that varies in height and thickness, with a battery that runs for up to one hour or 18,500 square feet per charge (in Quiet mode). If your lot is about the size of six tennis courts, this is the mower for you. The mower also includes several handy cordless functions, such as an easy-to-read power level indicator that tells you when it needs charging. And thanks to the three-in-one grass handling--which mulches, discharges grass to the side, or bags grass--you can easily mulch your lawn to encourage a healthier surface or bag the grass for composting or disposal.

The Worx Advantage

The WG788 offers a number of advantages over traditional lawnmowers. Unlike gas mowers, you won't throw out your arm starting the WG788 or get your hands dirty while checking the oil. Plus, the mower is quieter than gas mowers and emissions-free. In contrast to traditional electric mowers, users won't have to uncoil and step over an extension cord while mowing the front lawn. And the WG788 is far more efficient and easier to use than push mowers, which often require several passes to mow a tough patch of grass.

Ready, Set, Mow

Mowing the lawn is no longer a chore with the WG788. In addition to the easy-on switch, the mower includes a mulching blade designed to chop up your clippings even better than standard blades. To help you deal with seasonal grasses, the mower offers six height positions, so your lawn will look like you hired a pro. And the convenient detachable handle system makes it a cinch to remove the battery and charge it in a separate location. The handlebar also collapses for storage in tight spaces. With the Worx WG788, it's easier, quieter, and cleaner than ever to mow the lawn.

Verified Purchase
I've had this mower for 14 months now. Up until last month it worked great.

I went to start it one day and it didn't turn on. I found that if I held the handles down for about 30 seconds the blade did start to spin but extremely slowly.. not fast enough to cut grass though. I verified that the battery was charged using the tester built into the battery and it showed a full charge.

I called the customer service number and found that there isn't even an option for support.. you can choose between placing an order, tracking your order, or get a refund for a recent purchase. I found that choosing either the first or third option just sends you to an operator. Then it tells you that the operators are all busy and if you leave your number they'll call you back. It typically takes 2-3 hours for them to call back. They are East Coast, so if you are on the west coast you might be awoken by a early morning call back from them (they've done it to me several times now).

I explained the problem and they said it's the battery and they'll ship one right out to me under warranty, and sent me a order confirmation email. Several days pass, so I call back and choose 'track my order', and it says that my battery is about to be shipped and will be shipped in the next 24-48 hours. I wait several more days and call back and get the same message. I then check the 'track my order' link on their website, and it says that my battery is backordered. I called them again and after the 3 hour wait for a callback, they tell me that the battery is out of stock due to my unit being discontinued and that it will ship in 5-7 days. I questioned the fact that it was discontinued since their website still lists it as a current product and Amazon and Lowes still has it in stock.

EDIT TO REVIEW - Unfortunately, the battery on this only lasted one season. This year it does not hold a charge long enough to even finish a portion of the yard. It was a nice effort to "go green," but in the end I had to buy a new gas-powered mower.

If you are one of those people who spend your entire weekend out in the yard, this is probably not the mower for you. If you are one of those people who derive your self worth from your toys, this is definitely not the mower for you. But if you are one of those people who really only mow your lawn to appease the homeowners' association (which is invariably dominated by people in the first two categories), then this is a great option.

As you'll read in other reviews, the blade and deck are pretty small. So even in a relatively modest suburban postage stamp of a yard, you're going to get a good workout because you're going to do many more passes than your typical gas mower. But how many Americans couldn't use a little more exercise? Though I don't know why some folks say this mower is heavier than a typical gas mower. I don't find that to be the case. If anything, it seemed a little light and somewhat susceptible to tipping over or leaving the ground if you tried to use it one handed.

The cut is not particularly fine, and if you have a yard full of junk (rocks, nuts, small animals), I would think twice before buying this because the deck is entirely plastic.

If your yard is not a jungle, the mulching function works pretty well. It seemed to me that I had surprisingly little grass in the bag when I used it, so I wonder if the mulching function partially operates when you use the bag (I have no idea; I have not ventured into the directions).

I have seen some disparaging remarks about the WORX mower looking like it needed bubbles esp. on the 14 inch version, but check out the picture in the gallery of this mower next to the 3-6 foot tall weeds we have been slowly chewing up with it. If you are from the south, you know what a 1.5 acre small organic farm looks like after a year of no mowing. Ragweed, goldenrod, Johnson grass tufts, blackberry canes, etc. all tied together with Virginia Creeper and Honeysuckle. (We did cut out the baby trees out before mowing.) Put this mower on POWER setting and it will go for about 2 hours knocking down and slowly chomping up this jungle. When it gets too weak for that, we switch to Quiet and move to the area we did the weeks before to keep it maintained. When the blade stops cutting even grass and short stuff, we take the battery out and plug it in overnight.
My only complaint so far is that the foamy handle bar cushion has been shredded up a bit - probably the blackberry canes - Nothing duct tape won't fix. The cane chunks sometimes clog up the channel to the bag, but I don't think WORX really had bushhogging in mind when they designed the grass catcher.
The blade is actually 16 inches - the deck is 17" (That said, I don't know if the blade being an inch smaller than advertised deck size is mower industry standard like 2" x 4"s being 1.5" x 3.5")
When used solely on quiet mode for previously mown grass, the battery lasts a lot longer, usually as long as I can in MS heat.
Anyway, if it can do this, it should be able to handle a nice graded suburban lawn like a boss.

10/15/14 Today the battery would not fit in the mower?! It seemed hot too. Have messaged the Works FB page.
Bought a new battery last year and it is fine again.
