The replacement was also defective. It is a real shame because I really wanted this record. Now the artist is losing sales because her record manufacturer messed up. :(
I love the songs, the artist, the color of the vinyl. However, the record is defective! On some songs it skips around, repeats certain parts, or skips parts altogether. If the replacement I've ordered is defective as well, I'll just return it altogether.
6. wish you were gay
4. you should see me in a crown
7. when the party's over
10. bury a friend
Billie and Finneas are at the top of their game, both musically, and from the lyrics perspective. They write extremely punchy, catchy songs, and Billie's soft & sweet voice juxtaposes against the dark lyrics amazingly. I also love their use of extraneous sounds (like the sound of a knife being sharpened, and sirens in the distance in "you should see me in a crown", the distortion in “xanny”, the "The Office" sound clips in “my strange addiction”) to punctuate the message of particular songs.
Aside from the four listed above, I also liked the following (listed in my ranked order):
5. all the good girls go to hell
9. my strange addiction
13. I love you
12. listen before I go: I wouldn’t say I like this song, as in I wouldn’t just play it to enjoy myself, but I appreciate how extremely dark it is, to the point of being disturbing because of how real that situation is to some people.
All in all, this is a solid second album.
Replacement item arrived today and playback is just as bad as the first one. We really gave this the benefit of the doubt but were definitely disappointed again. Returning this for a refund. You can see artifacts in almost the same exact location as the previous record. The replacement was plagued with random skipping and distorted audio. Can't stress enough, this record player has absolutely no issues playing the other two sony manufactured records we've purchased. Playback is smooth and effortless with those, while this one you can't even enjoyably listen to. It's unfortunate, but I do not recommend purchasing this particular item. You might have better luck with another batch/ collector's version but two bad ones in a row is not a good sign. You're better off sticking to digital on this one, unless you want it for display only.
My younger sister recently got a record player for her birthday and we're slowly building her collection. She has two other records that are fantastic. Smooth playback, no skipping.
As for this one - terrible skipping, unusable playback. It has minimal to no warping and yet it plays like the most warped piece of vinyl ever. Very disappointed that so many customers on here were right, and the amount of defective products being sent out is honestly inexcusable. I noticed one review mention that even their replacement was defective. I echo that person's statement, and if the replacement I receive is also defective I'll just return this.
We listen to this album on that one music app that starts with an 'S', and it's a great album the whole family enjoys. So it's a real shame if they do not resolve this.
