The story in the end is a very brief recounting of how an Amish boy and his father have a wagon misshap while travelling unprotected along the road. The father has refused to pay the englischers for protection from "the wild ones." Unable to fix the wagon the boy and his father are screwed until a band of of wild ones appear and.........I guess you need go check the sofa for 99 cents.
While Bunker's short story doesn't explicitly answer all those questions, we certainly have a lot more insight into this group and their motivations. This is a good short story that gets in, tells the story, and gets out. Well done -- looking forward to more of these!
The story gives us more detail while also expanding the mystery of Pennsylvania. It is written in a different style and voice than the novel and really shows the depth of the stories that can be told in this world.
