Not As Good As the Storm Whistle

This is a pretty good whistle, and it is definitely not a toy. I own the smaller "Windstorm whistle" as well as the larger "Storm whistle". Here is a quick summary of the pros & cons of the "Windstorm whistle" when compared to the larger "Storm whistle".

Pros: 1) First, the good news... The Windstorm is about 25% smaller than the Storm Whistle.

Pros: 2) Both the Windstorm and Storm whistles are made in the USA.

Cons: 1) The Windstorm is not nearly as well constructed as its big brother -- the Storm Whistle. The smaller Windstorm is manufactured using a "clamshell" design, and as a result, it has a seam right down the middle -- including a seam in the middle of the mouth piece. As a result, it does not appear to be as well made as the larger Storm Whistle. Other reviewers have commented that the plastic in the Windstorm is a little cheap. Well, in my opinion, they are right.

Cons: 2) The smaller Windstorm is loud, but it just does not seem to be quite as loud as the larger Storm whistle.

Conclusion: Overall, I recommend that you get the larger Storm Whistle. I believe that the larger Storm whistle is more durable than the smaller Windstorm and appears to be better made. Both whistles are loud, and you will probably be very happy with either one. However, in my opinion, the larger Storm Whistle is significantly louder than the smaller Windstorm Whistle.

I bought all three colors because the wife and I carry black ones and dont feel the need to advertise them when they come out.

These whistles are LOUD. We use them as a potential "non lethal" response, as we are currently in a weapon unfriendly country.

My children have them in the orange because that stands out well in the woods, and we have some of the green ones to just in case there is an argument over who's is who's :)

My 5 year old is able to fully sound the whistle. Couple this with the "hug a tree" teaching and we have proven several times that they are very easy to locate over rather large distances.

They carry them on bike rides and in their school bags. One hopes they never need them, but they feel much more confident knowing that they can do something to help control the outcome of situations.
