I’ve been wanting this for my Tesla Model 3 because I live in Southern California and during the summer the sun can really be strong and make me feel extra hot. Even with the extra tint I added to the roof it’s still really hot. Here are some pros and cons of this shade.
Pros:
- It can block the sun out completely. I got immediate comfort from blocking the sun out and felt a difference in temperature right away. It was much cooler.
- Removable, I plan on taking this off during cooler months.
- Unlike most window shade you pop up on the front window this frame is very think and firm. I would say the metal frame inside this shade is at least twice as think and form as the typical front window shade. It think it needs to be that way to hold strong on the roof.
Cons:
- Doesn't fit perfectly. Although it fits there are a few issues. There are tiny gaps around the edge. Because the fit isn’t perfect it is hard to get every clip to slide into the frame evenly around the shade, the back end come down lower than I’d prefer, I can still see out ok but I wish it was just and inch or two higher, the back also sags about 1 inch due to the fact that the shade doesn’t fit perfectly and it’s heavy.
- It will take a little adjusting to make it stay the way you are comfortable with. Meaning it won’t fit perfectly even everywhere but you will be able to make it fit snuggly and I’m pretty confident it will not fall down. You will have to use the clips that are provided.
- I don’t plan on taking this on and off frequently. Due to its bulky size and tight/imperfect fit it makes more sense to just leave it in once it’s put on. I like the idea that it can be removed but I would only do it occasionally. Maybe twice a year when I put it in for the hot months and remove it during the cooler months.
- It can be used 2 ways partially shaded and completely shaded. I Immediately used the extra blackout shade the wraps around the partial shade frame. I don’t plan on switching it out because it’s a lot of effort to take off the shade but it’s nice to have the options.
Other considerations:
- I actually haven’t tried folding it back again. It looks complicated but I don’t know for sure.
- It’s big and bulky even when folded but it’s because the glass panels are large.
- This came with the little triangle shades. I don’t think they are necessary but I pooped them in anyways. The fit is ok. They are just as thick and heavy duty as the top ones. I think it’s overly hefty for its size and location. It could have been made with a lighter duty frame like my front window shade.
All in all I’ve had this for about a month and it’s serving it’s purpose of blocking the sun from burning my head and shoulders. Although it’s not perfect I was able to get it on and haven’t thought about it since except to notice that I’m cooler. Thumbs up. I would purchase it again unless someone made one the fits more perfectly.
