WMF Function 4 Cookware
With its striking red silicone ring, the Function 4 lid has been designed to fit perfectly and look amazing. But the innovation that makes it truly unique is the pouring rim and the 4 different pouring settings:
- The closed option can be used for boiling or low liquid cooking.
- The opened option makes for a clean even pour.
- The large holes can be used when straining right from the pot to hold back larger items like pasta or potatoes.
- And finally the smaller holes are used to hold back smaller items like rice.

Top Customer Reviews
I do have more than enough pots and pans, and those are super, there is just no need for a new pot set. But therefore that we are not able to take a pot home for a trial, just to find out how it will work, I had buy it.
The Trans Therm universal base makes it possible to use Function 4 on all stovetops, including induction. As a little tip: always put a pot on the right sized burner, the pot should cover the burner, otherwise the pot is getting to hot on the outside and energy is being wasted. The pot heats up fast and very evenly due to its heavy base.
I can move the hot pot around without pot holders, but for straining I do use mostly potholders, just to be on the safe side. Straining out the liquid has been made super easy due to the lids pouring holes. And with another little turn of the lid no steam will escape. The glass lid allows me to check on my food without having to lift the lid and therefore all the steam stays in the pot, what is important if I cook with only a little bit of water. I know that this pot will work forever. I use it now mostly for stews, there is no burning of the meat, I do not need to add much liquids, just put it on low heat or into the oven - also on low heat and the food will come out great. I just made my favorite Goulash with tomatoes, yummy!
I want to move away from the nonstick frying pans, they are very practical and I do buy always good quality, but there is something missing. Somebody wrote in one of his reviews that fried eggs just taste better if made in a stainless steel pan. So, I pulled out the stainless steel pot and fried an egg in it. The gentleman was right, it taste better, like in the good old days! Over the years I got rid of the bad habit of pouring the oil into the pan before the pan is hot. I think that I am therefore ready to buy a stainless steel pan, the cleaning up will be no longer an issue.
I will have to get the Function 4 frying and serving ( oven ) pan too, it is already on my list. I do like pans with two handles; I find it more secure and easier if I put the pan into the oven. WMF Function 4 Oven Pan, 11-Inch
This pot exceeded all my criteria and expectations. It's very functional with the red silicone wrap around on the lid for different straining options or to adjust how much steam can escape while cooking. I can view what's going on during the cooking process without lifting the lid. The handles stay cool. There are no rivets or other attaching mechanism on the inside of the pan for the handles. It has good weight - not too much that it makes handling difficult nor too light that compromises durability or construction quality.
I tried pulling the silicone off the lid to see if it was possible in case I should want to at some point for cleaning. It didn't come out easy but it did come out.
I think it's a beautifully constructed, well thought out design.
I'm very happy with this purchase and hope it holds up for many years to come.
And they have 4 ways of puting the top: no staem out, littel steam out, more steam out, pour water out without lifting the top. This way it is very easy to cook potatos, nudles etc. without water overflow.
They also keep the warm very long time and look beautiful. So I often leave the food in the pots and serve it that way. this way the food ist still hot even when it stays for a while on the table.
