I own a 8 qt Fissler and two smaller WMF Pressure cookers

I like the WMF pressure cookers the best. The Fissler is a close second. Here's the reason. I have owned/used a pressure cooker for many years. The "old" versions had this metal piece that sat on top of the lid that "jiggled" and a little bit of steam would spurt when it was under pressure, you knew by the sound and the activity of that piece on top if you needed to turn the heat up or down. The WMF has a pop up gauge as does the Fissler and it's easy to see what level of pressure the cooker is operating at. The WMF has an added bonus where if it's reached it's pique in pressure (too high and needs to come down) you'll get a low pitch noise (not annoying) and you just adjust your heat accordingly. You never walk away from a stove version pressure cooker so this the noise feature isn't for that reason. But it is helpful if you're busy prepping other stuff for your meal at the counter. Price point on both the Fissler and the WMF is about the same, not a whole lot of difference. I have used both the WMF and Fissler pressure cookers for about a year now.

For people making dried beans- it will make 4.5 cups of dried beans max. Meaning measure 4.5 cups of beans, soak them, rinse them, and that is the max amount that fits in the 6.5 quart WMF pressure cooker. Pressure cooking beans breaks down the lectins in it so we digest it easier and it is healthier for us. This pot cleans really easily. I have finally used a steel wool inside and it is like any other stainless pot. Looks great. Just don't over load it with more beans than 4.5 cups dry so it foams up and gets into the handle. The handle can be rinsed (not soaked I believe) but takes a couple of days to dry out inside it so its easier not to get it full of foam from the beans (shake it hard and a lot to get most of the water out if you get some in). If you rinse it like the picture shows it cleans it fine. Don't turn it over to rinse the other side or it will fill with water. Love the little handle across from the big handle. Big plus for draining the beans. This is my first pressure cooker and I am extremely happy with it.

UPDATE: struggling with my cooker and have gotten great help, encouragement and service from the manufacturer. They replaced parts I thought were defective, very quickly I might add. I love using it, there is a learning curve, so do research. Quality product superior service, very happy I persevered.

This pot expensive, but it’s the real deal when it comes to quality. It will probably last a lifetime or more. I like the size, I got the small one, and since I live alone it is perfect. I mainly use it for cooking tree collards. I used to need to steam them for 35 minutes to get them tender, now it takes about five minutes and they have a much better texture and taste. Using it is a little bit complicated, so read instructions. Much easier and less dramatic to use them the old-fashioned kind with the hissing weight on top. Safer too, since you can release pressure without carrying the cooker to the sink to cool it off. Easy to clean and lightweight. Really nice tool.

I guess I am rhapsodizing over this pressure cooker but it's the 4th one I've tried and I must say I love it!

We remodeled our kitchen and our new cooktop is an induction model so our old (20+ year) aluminum PC no longer worked for us.

I tried Futuro, Kuhn Rikon and some other brand I don't recall. None was both thick enough to prevent food burning and with a simple and easy to use pressure system.

I cook daily for 6 or more and this cooker is big enough to meet all my needs. In the few days I've had it, I've made risotto - no burning, cheesecake - no cracking, chicken cacciatore and brisket. Every recipe was perfect when done.

Clean up is a snap - remove the handle and rinse under running water. Remove the sealing ring and wash by hand. Toss everything else in the dishwasher.

Did I say I love this pressure cooker? Yes, it's expensive but well worth it!

06/27/2010 Edited to add that the pressure release valve with the little ball in it cracked. I called WMF America and they were happy to send a new one. There were no customer service issues at all. The people I spoke to were helpful and courteous.

We still love our cooker and continue to get lots of use from it.

I've never used a pressure cooker before. I had scary memories of a clanking, hissing monster in a German cook's kitchen. But the monster brought forth the best soup I'd ever tried, in very short order.
So I bit the bullet this year and after careful consideration of the alternatives, bought the WMF cooker. I've used their stainless and know them to be good.
This is one of the best kitchen aids I've ever purchased. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and it is preternaturally quiet. I watched fascinated as a small hiss from the front of the pot was abruptly cut off as a tiny ball bearing blocked the valve. Then a very large and easy to read indicator rose out of the handle to indicate pressure. Most of the barley soup was cooked with the flame actually off, since the well made and insulated pot didn't need a constant flame to maintain pressure. So I made a terrific soup in 20 minutes and didn't use a lot of energy to do so.
After the soup was finished I immediately gave away a very large steamer with an insert that weighed three pounds more; the WMF is such a high quality pot that it's possible to use it in the other capacities such as boiling and steaming foodstuffs. I think that I will get the alternative lid so that it's easier to do this.
The WMF cooker is a terrific buy. The 6.5 quart size is just right, too; large but not overpowering.
