I bought this for my son because he loves making videos. I was disappointed with the size - it's only about 10" x 12" and it's not very durable. But he liked it and it made a fun Christmas gift. It's not bad for a piece of room decor, but if you want a real one to actually use - this isn't it.

Amazon lists this as a toy, I would be a pretty sad child if you bought this for me as a toy. Its more of a prop, pretty cheaply made but in the hands of somebody that takes care of it and does not submit it to harsh conditions it can be used as a cheap slate and works just like the real thing. This is what I actually got it for and it was better than paying $30 for a "real" one plus its small and light so it packs up easier.

Frugal Film Maker is what linked me to it for a DIY project, and what I imagine most people buying it are using it for.

This product is now part of my HDSLR kit allowing me to sync multiple sound sources and cameras during shooting, as part of the Frugal Slate project developed by The Frugal filmmaker blog. Best investment. Simple small and convenient.

These VERY flimsy and they came already ready to break. I did not even have to open the package to see how wobbly they were and they were scuffed so even if they were a gift they would come carrots as second hand. These are not even good for props and definitely not a toy for a kid.

What can I say? It's a " t o y ". lol

Cute, but you can't write on it with chalk at all.

If you need a quick and cheap working clapper board for a video project, you'll need to print out a graphic of a real white dry erase type clapper board from the web, and apply the print out to the toy, and then put a clear plastic film or clear tape over it to make it a working clapper board. I did this with mine while I was waiting for a real clapper board to show up a week later. The toy worked just fine for my production durring the wait.

I picked up one of these, hoping it'd be a little bigger and a little more rugged, like a 'real' clapper. But, for a few dollars, I really can't complain. It'll look nice on the wall in my living room along with the rest of the 'vintage' cinema decor, but beyond that, I really don't think it's work more than what I paid for it.

Novelty ONLY.

Okay, is it a slate? Yes. Does it clack? Yes. So it is functional. It is a cheap chalkboard, which is functional if you take extremely good care of it. It makes a great wall decoration for a kid's room, or useful for a cheap slate for location filming. If you are shooting digital (camera on your phone) and syncing sound you are recording separately this is a must have. It does not come with chalk or a rag (in case you were wondering). It is of relatively sound construction and I have had no problems with it. It is the only slat I could find easily that was not either digital (expensive and requiring batteries) or a whiteboard. This is a repro of a throwback slate. It works, it is cute, and it is slightly larger than an adult male hand. Other than that it is not something we EVER used on set.

This is exactly what it is supposed to be. A small replica of a Scene Clapper. The wood is frail and the glue does not hold well, it was broken in the package and we had to glue it for our photos.

The seller is awesome however!
