About the author

I am a Grandma who creates stories for my grandchildren out of love for them. This is not my only professional activity, more of a passion that I want to share with others.
Only as a grandmother did I appreciate how important it is to raise children properly. What I failed to do as a mother, I try to do as a grandmother. Raise children in a wise family full of values and love. I know how children's emotions are difficult for parents and how often we don't know how to deal with them. I share my insights and experience, although I probably still have a lot to learn.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Unfortunately, this book has several flaws. It is written as if it is supposed to be read to a fairly young girl, and not many details of each woman's story are provided. Yes, each has several pages dedicated to her, but the author often talks in generalities and platitudes rather than telling more about what these women actually did. I would have liked the stories to have a little bit more substance so that the young reader or listener could better appreciate what these ladies did or continue to do.
Most women discussed are relatively modern, the author only going back to the late 1800s occasionally. There are certainly women before those times who deserve mention. Most ladies featured have passed on, though a few are still living.
Each story starts with a usually somewhat whimsical drawing of the woman, usually as a young girl but sometimes older. While the images have a photo-realistic effect, most don't actually look like what the women looked like. For instance, Princess Diana looks more like a woman from 1940s World War II era London than a woman who was in the limelight in the 1980s and 1990s. Queen Elizabeth II appears like a caricature not remotely resembling the recently deceased monarch. The book's text is sometimes superimposed over colorful blobs, and unfortunately, some blobs are quite dark, making it hard to read the words on top of them. I wish this book had more substance and didn't have such a shallow “women can be awesome, so you be awesome too, little girl” vibe to it.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
