This compilation offers very different writing styles and approaches to the fantasy and sci-fi realms. A few of them definitely had a "Twilight Zone" type of feel, which I really enjoyed. It gave a sense of reality, that something like this could happen, but will it? A couple had some twists, and the great thing is that if one story is not to your liking, then there are plenty more great concepts. There was one story early on that gave me a little difficulty, but I did not let that dissuade me and blew through the rest of the stories. It would be extremely difficult to state which of the stories was my favorite, however, the first one pulled me in from the start and kept me flipping through the pages all night.
I highly recommend this to be your next read.
Rhoda D'Ettore's Reviews - I was given this book for a fair and honest review.
This book is full of wonderful short stories from some very talented authors. For those who appreciate good sci-fi/fantasy stories these stories will whet your appetites, leaving you wanting more. All of these stories can most definitely be expanded into full novels. These stories make the mind ponder the possibilities on how futuristic inventions can change the dynamics of the human race. Stories such as The Substitutes leaving us to wonder if the father was actually running with his real daughter who seemed to exist in two realms, The Mitochondrial Mom, making us ponder a world where there's a huge price to giving birth, and the Perfect Fit, where a generation of splicers are en route to a different planet, cloning more of their own for survival, while being a story of fantasy, still brings in the human element of having emotions. An excellent anthology, highly recommended.
Although this genre of reading is not usually my first choice, I thoroughly enjoyed this anthology and was a given a copy to read and leave an honest review.
I am not usually a science fiction fan, but I really enjoyed these stories. There was a wide variety and the authors did not let the science overtake the characters. I found myself liking the oddity of the circumstances and settings as each story unfolded. And not one story reminded me of "Star Wars", which is what I expected science fiction to be. I have been pleasantly reeducated. A good read!
This is an interesting collection of short stories. Many of them left me wanting more of the story, and some of them left me confused. It seems the more I read short stories the more I realize I'm not a short story kind of person. However, I can appreciate the quality of writing in this collection. If you enjoy science fiction and especially in it's short form, you'll love this.
