Used with PoE switches 802.3af or 802.3at or passive Injectors with 48 to 56volts
Mix 5v and 12v and 802.3af on the same PoE switch or injector
These devices use power from the ethernet cable. The splitter at the camera lowers the voltage to 5 volts to operate the device.
250 ma from the 802.3af side produces 2 amps on the 5v side
If you do not already have a PoE switch, you can power up to 16 devices from one power source, use our 4, 8, 12 or 16 port, 48v injector

Needed a direct power solution (no adapters, etc.) for an Axis camera that was not PoE.
I did not want to use passive injection and have to worry about supplying different voltages at the source.
This product was the perfect solution and the quality is obvious, as well.
I'm no novice when it comes to electronics and/or networking (35 year EE/CompE) and it's amazing how many people don't know what they're buying and the sellers take advantage of that. MANY, if not most, of the "802.3af compliant" injectors I have seen are actually PASSIVE injectors, which, by definition, are NOT 802.3af compliant. It's also a good way for a neophyte to ruin their equipment since there is no standard. They also use the correct term "compatible" but never explain that is not the same as "compliant."
In any event, this is a truly compliant device that negotiates Mode A/B PoE (Ver. 5) from the power sending device and then Buck converts it to 5V, 2000mA.
This could never be done with a linear regulator with a passive 48V injection. Even with 12V passive injection, as much power would be dropped in the regulator as in the device and that just won't work.
It works perfectly, never have I had a voltage drop nor the iPads ever fail to charge, granted they don't charge fast in this setup, but the small voltage passing through the Ethernet is more than enough to keep them at 100%.
If you need a remote charging solution for your USB device, look no further this is what you need.
As for the product itself, I ordered 5 of these because I have 4 Raspberry Pi's that I'm using as cameras and one Foscam. This worked with the Foscam by not using the microUSB connector (you can just remove it) and it worked with the Raspberry Pi with the connector. I've had no problems with it, and it works as expected. I have the 4 Raspberry Pi's hooked using a NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch with 4-Port PoE (GS308P-100NAS) and then one is using a TP-Link Gigabit Ethernet PoE Injector Adapter (TL-PoE150S) since I have 5 devices and the switch only have 4 PoE ports.
The whole setup is working great, no problems. Just remember to order 802.3af PoE Splitter for MicroUSB Devices Like Raspberry Pi, Dropcam Power over Ethernet To 328 Feet from PoE Switches for USB with 10 Watts Output WT-AF-5v10w-microUSB-LA left angle for a Raspberry Pi.
I bought a PoE switch and 8 of these PoE splitters. They are nearly PERFECT. My only complaint is that they come in one color (black) while the IP cameras are white.
They are easy to set up and do exactly as they describe. Plug in the Ethernet cable (going to your PoE switch) on one end, and plug the power and Ethernet plugs on the other end to the IP camera. Works like a charm. I tried it out on several devices, including a Raspberry Pi and my cell phone (just for charging). No problems at all.
After talking to Wifi-Texas support, it turns out that the splitter I received is v3. This version works with POE devices implementing mode A (power on pins 1,2 - 3,6), where as both of my switches (and most I encountered) implement mode B (power on pins 4,5 - 7,8).
Currently, I am waiting for replacement, v5, which I understand does both. I will update this review when I receive it.
Wifi-Texas, please update your description to include the modes your device supports.
Received replacement part (V5) - works as advertised. Five stars for good customer service.
You never know you need it until you need it.
I heart you, Wifi-Texas.
Dead out of the box. Ordered some of these for work. Also dead out of the box. Checked the connection and everything else was fine. However after testing several cameras and other items, everything else worked. Just not the splitter. Quality control needs to step up. 4 out of 4 are bad :(.
