Marc is not just a comedian. He does the best interviews with people I have a real interest in. He gets them to open up and talk about their lives in ways a television interviewer would not have the time for between the commercials for car insurance ,cell phones, and prescriptions for your latest problem.. I was into wtf from the start. I listened to all available on my phone podcast app and recently found older shows on you tube. binge listener!!! My top three so far that blew me away so far: ken burns. . Ray liotta sad and amazing Dave Crosby, stuff I knew but love the way he tells it. Marc is a definite curmudgeon. Keep going Marc. updated july 2019

I'm a big fan of stand up. I've always enjoyed hearing about the creative process and the stories of what got certain people to arrive at the current point in their lives. I've never listened to Marons stand up but by his own description he seems to improvise a lot of his material. That style serves him extremely well in his interviews, he has the ability to breach some very difficult subjects with candor and compassion but can diffuse the tension of the subject matter with humor that doesn't insult the persons experience. Some of the episodes tend to be deeply revealing in ways that I've heard no one accomplish before, these aren't Barbra Walters softball questions and fluff interviews. There is talk about drug addiction, alcoholism, severe depression even coming out of the closet. There can be honest tension with some of the people being interviewed, maybe from strained relationships in the past that rather than never having the person on his show he makes great shows out of it. Guests aren't just comedians, some people I had never been familiar with directly but have influenced the movies and shows I watch or music I listen to. . Writers, comedic actors artist all very interesting people giving personal insight or talking about things that go on behind the scenes. Hope you give it a chance, I put WTF along side This American Life and Radio Lab as my favorite podcasts. Thanks
Love him or hate him, he's got great guests and a great app.
This app is rock solid with all the features necessary to make listening convenient and enjoyable - including an automatic save feature, and the ability to mark favorite episodes with a star. But, the biggest plus is that you can also download episodes to your device so they can be played without wifi - an absolute must for almost everyone.
I believe that recent episodes are offered for free, while as little as $1.99 will get you a month's access to his back catalog, and I think some bonus material. So it's probably worth at least that - if only to hear a few of the key interviews you might have missed. Beyond that, it's a good podcast that is well worth supporting (at the astronomical figure of $8.99 a year).
I would recommend checking out his website to see the list of who he's interviewed. That's probably the best way to decide if any money should change hands. Otherwise, enjoy whatever's offered for free.
I really enjoy the candid conversations Marc has with his friends, who happen to be both well known actors and comedians and musicians as well as not-so well known. One can hardly call them interviews because although he asks them questions about their work and their lives, it feels as if you are just sitting in with them as they share a drink at a local bar and are catching up on old times. You can especially hear it in the Louis CK episodes and Conan O'Brien. Marc's honesty and truthfulness about himself and his own life, worries, and problems brings out a humanness in the episodes and his guests that not a lot of talk shows can do. Thus the magic of a podcast- from the comfort of his own garage/office, he brings amazing stories and hilarious anecdotes to listeners all over the world.
Whether Marc is your cup of tea or not, think you will enjoy his interviews with an eclectic mix of talented people. Wit, wisdom, flaws, insecurities and personal histories are explored with surprising candor. You will likely find yourself running the gamut of emotions right along with them-roaring with laughter, alight with inspiration, wrung out and heartbroken but finally landing smack in the midst of compassion and love- for yourself and others.
I really enjoy listening to Marc Maron's podcast. I have been a comedy geek since I was a kid. Marc does great interviews, mostly with comedians, that go wherever the conversation takes them from nostalgia, comedy/Hollywood history, to confrontation, career choices and catharthis. It is worth the subscription fee to get access to the archive and to listen to the early episodes as well as the current episodes.

Marc Maron is a great interviewer - asks great questions and doesn't interrupt. Smart, funny, curious. My kids are old enough now that it is OK to expose them to the expletives for the sake of the intelligent conversation (not every interview is appropriate though). Interviews with old timers and up-and-comers. I wish I knew more of the people he interviews. Sometimes I listen even if I don't know the person - then I look them up on line.
Best podcast out there. Maron has such a wide variety of guests and a very engaging interviewing style that feels like you're just sitting there with them. His introductions have him checking in to let us know what's up in his life. Very engaging. I've been listening for 2 years. Be warned that if you're language-sensitive, you'll hear some "f" bombs. Hello - it's the title of the podcast.
I've been waiting ages to listen to this show after stumbling across Maron's stand up earlier in this year. It's all I could have wanted and a little bit more. Funny, insightful and deeply personal. This is one hell of a podcast (and a possible future addiction).

He has some interesting guests and the discussions deep, funny, insightful. He won't be for everyone of course, but if you are a little edgy, sensitive, thoughtful give this podcast a shot. There is a whole backlog to close from, and he often has well known guests opening up about their lives.

Excellent interviewer - get s the most out of his interviewees; in particular the Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, Robin Williams, Edgar Wright and Chris Cornell ones are worth a listen
