Editorial Reviews

For more than ten years, Kane has cut a fiery swath of destruction through World Wrestling Entertainment. Whether cheered or booed, Kane has been one of the most popular superstars of WWE, battling his brother Undertaker, fighting the equally deranged Mick Foley, and countless other battles against Edge, Matt Hardy, Triple H, Big Show, Shawn Michaels, and more. He has held both the WWE and ECW championships. Now, for the first time ever, fans can purchase The Best of Kane, a 3-DVD set that collects the greatest matches in the Big Red Monster's history.

I was born in 1990 and enjoyed WWF during the "Attitude Era" and my favorite wrestler(s) have always been Kane, the Undertaker,Jeff Hardy,Stone Cold & Hulk Hogan. But i stopped watching after Wrestlemania 20 because it seemed to be more show than substance, less wrestling and more talking. But when i saw they put together a dvd set about Kane i was intrigued,so i picked up the 3 disc set. The matches are all great, almost every reviewer put down the matches on the dvd set so instead i'll just explain a few things others may not have put down. First of all Kane does not win every match, which is kinda a bummer because you would think they would highlight his best matches and victories, but for the most part the match selection is good. The matches with the Undertaker are classic, the chain match with HHH is pretty sweet & the last man standing match with Jericho is sick. You get too see matches from Kane's introduction to the WWF thru to 2008. The matches against Matt Hardy & Edge with the love triangle involving Lita are pretty sick as are the matches against Shane McMahon. The only reason i give it 4 stars is because it isn't as packed with the oldschool matches involving the Brothers of Destruction, also the guy does not break character at all. The character Kane does the intro for all the matches, whereas there is no personal info from Glen Jacobs perspective. That right there is a bit of a downer because i would really like to hear Glen in his own words talking about his intro to the wrestling business.Read more ›

Kane needs another dvd release because this set did not do his career justice. Imo, there are several more matches that could have been placed on here. We see Kane without the mask by the second disc; just seems rushed and several things were glossed over. Also the packaging is horrible and the disc easily scratched.

I see there have been some mixed reviews for this set--and who knows if there will be another one in the future for the Big Red Machine--but, I have no complaints. In fact, I might say this is the best wrestling collection I have seen just based on match quality--and I've got quite a few of them.

Kane himself appears "in character" cutting vignettes before each match & as I said before, there's not a bad match on here imo. Some classics with HBK, Triple H, Kurt Angle, and of course, the Undertaker. Kane has had the reputation over his career as being one of the most agile & athletic "big men" in the business and this collection certainly proves it.

Hopefully, the good people at WWE will open up the vaults again in the near future and give us another set of the Demon.

NOTE: I updated this review in 2013

Well, this is one interesting set to say the least as Kane has been the most "unstable" wrestler probably in WWE history. I mean that he's had too many periods where his character was red hot & on fire (no pun intended), periods where he's just completely stale, and with some of the most horrible wrestlecrap storylines they've given Kane...there are times where your wondering why they just didn't put the character out of it's misery already. However, Kane has been able to withstand all of that & still be over after over 10 years now so a proper DVD on his career is justified (minus that quick one they did with 5 matches around 2 years ago) with Kane hosting the presentation himself.

vs. Mankind - Mankind was not only out for revenge for Kane attacking Dude Love weeks earlier but also for his former manager Paul Bearer easily dismissing him as "a pebble" as Kane came out to a red light over the arena which remained that way throughout the match. Kane was attacked on the floor but easily overpowered Mankind throwing him into the steps before just throwing the steps into Mankind's face as he was very dominate despite Mankind using whatever he could get his hands on such as the steps & a chair along with moves like the piledriver along with getting his hands on Paul Bearer as well however nothing could stop Kane here as he continued to punish Mankind putting him through the spanish table & slamming him off the top rope onto the floor on the outside. Mankind described exactly how this match would be in his pre-match interview as it was "Mankind against a brick wall" as he trying but Kane just kept dishing out the punishment & just beat Mankind into exhaustion in the end.
