The Original Whirley-Pop stovetop hand-crank popcorn popper brings it all back with its one-of-a-kind design. You can enjoy light, flavorful popcorn (makes up to six quarts) that you prepare yourself right on the stovetop in just three minutes.
Face it, sometimes the best thing about going out to a movie is the popcorn, those big plump kernels that always seem so much better than what you pop at home. But this simple stovetop popper changes all that. It really does make awesome, fresh-popped corn that might make you start renting videos instead. The sturdy aluminum pan has a clip-on lid with a stay-cool wooden handle. A turn crank on the handle spins the key element: the stainless steel stirring system that keeps the corn moving across the bottom of the pan, for even heat and oil distribution, ensuring the best popping results. The lid has steam vents, to help keep the popcorn dry and crisp. The enclosed booklet is a wonderful resource, with not only clear and detailed instructions, but also dozens of recipes and popcorn history and lore. These are folks who really do know their popcorn, and the results are outstanding. --Cynthia Nims

I wrote off Whirly Pop as a possibility for me mainly because my cooking surface is induction and it simply would not work. Also, I thought the plastic gears and function SEEMED a little on the cheap/poor quality side WITH THE AMOUNT I use it. The Whirley Pop is a great popper and is perfect for most home users. I do not insinuate the plastic mechanism does not function well.
I just came back in the market for a new popper since my small commercial popper died. My research for a new popper revealed the Stainless Steal model of Whirley Pop. I had no idea they made one. This is THE BEST of THE BEST - even if you do not have an induction cooktop. It will work with any method and I imagine is pretty awesome on gas. The quality is top notch and the look and feel are great - but do those extra perks really matter? Not at the end of the day. They are just great perks and well loved ones at that.
What really matters is the popcorn. I have never had a popper that I love as much as this one. It's use is just as customizable as the connoisseurs that use it. It is awesome!
The bottom line is that it is the BEST corn popper on the market for home use (and even for commercial use I imagine if you have an available heat source). The clean up is so easy and the popcorn is perfection. Thank You Wabash Valley Farms for upgrading your amazing corn popper.
There was no burning, even after slightly putting too many kernels in the bottom. My first run packed the pan to the top and the taste was exactly as I wanted. Here's my story:
- I have always used a chef's pan to make our popcorn. My wife calls it Honey Pop since her honey makes it.
- I made it well on gas and when we moved, electric worked fine as well. I used a combination of preheating, thoroughly tossing the kernels around, and then when they start popping, I shook the pan on the stove back and forth. Perfect and delicious!
- Got a Samsung glass top and the first time I shook my pan, the glass scratched. Dang it.
- Without the pan shake and constant heat, I couldn't get the popcorn to pop correctly. I tried everything.
- Last night, I saw this pan, others like it, but zeroed in on the ton of positive reviews. After reading comments on stainless over aluminum, I bought the stainless variant. Stainless also is softer and works better on glass tops.
- Honey pop is back!
So, I have my popcorn ability back and can't be happier. Man is this fast and cleanup is a snap.
We use coconut oil which works great (although some people don't like the smell as it cooks). It tastes good and much healthier than other oils.
I've heard you can also use Splenda instead of regular white sugar if you prefer, although we haven't tried that yet.
The popper is well made and large enough to make popcorn for several people. It cranks smoothly unlike another one we had which scraped hard against the bottom. The red finish is more matte looking than the photo shows (it isn't shiny).
I immediately returned this defective popper for a replacement. I’m hoping I just got a lemon. Your experience may differ.
