I bought these as replacements for several older Waechtersbach "Fun Factory" mugs which got chipped over time. The first thing I noticed upon receiving them is that they're made in China rather than Germany --which suggests some cost-cutting by the manufacturer. The second thing was that they're somewhat heavier than the older mugs -- which, while perhaps less "fine," may actually prove to be better, since the older ones always seemed a bit too light and chipped rather easily. And the third thing I noticed was that the shape of the handles is a bit different, with more curvature at the top. This all leads me to think that, although the color and finish match my set of plates and bowls well enough, these are effectively different mugs with the same name. So they're probably only viable as replacements for older mugs rather than as additions to a set. (Note: my set dates from 2005)
