The Elite 400W Pro comes with a DC adapter for use inside of the vehicle, and battery cables with alligator clamps to connect the Elite 400W Pro Inverter directly to the battery. Four reinforced mounting brackets and a neutral to ground bond so it can be mounted to your boat in addition to your vehicle.
The Elite 400W PRO is specifically built for the user. On the front panel, there are two 120V grounded AC outlets (providing the same clean power found in your home), a 2.1A USB Power port, power and fault LEDs, inverter power switch and 2 mounting brackets (4 total).
The rear panel features a fan grille (for the internal cooling fan), negative and positive terminals, and a grounding terminal. 4 mounting brackets are built into the perimeter of the case (2 front, 2 rear) to ensure the Elite 400W Pro is able to be secured where you need it.

Pure Sine Wave versus Modified Sine Wave
Modified Sine Waves (MSW) are not smooth, flowing waves. Instead, they present a wave form that has steep crests followed by a sharp plateau and then a steep trough; that is why MSWs are also known as 'Square Waves'. On the other hand, the Pure Sine Wave is a smooth, more constant and flowing wave form. Therefore devices will run smoother, cooler, quieter, and will not be damaged from a MSW's sharp on/off fluctuations.
True Rated Power
All Wagan Tech inverters feature True-rated Power. This means that they will run for 24 hours of continuous usage under full load (400 Watts). When we claim that our Elite 400W Pro Inverter produces 400 watts for 24 hours, it really does; however, that's not a claim that our competitors can make. Their inverter may be able to handle the claimed wattage for a short duration (typically 20-30 minutes), but won't sustain any real world use. Wagan Tech believes in truth in advertising; this puts Wagan Tech Inverters above the competition.
The Elite 400W Pro also features a low battery alarm and an automatic low battery shutdown feature that will notify you when your battery is getting low (10.5V ± 0.5V) and will shut down the inverter to protect the battery from over-discharging and possibly damaging it (9.5V ± 0.5V). With over-load, over-heat, short-circuit, low battery, and reverse polarity protection, you can rest assured that your investments are well protected.

One of the first things I did was open the inverter to see if it had soldered in fuses or ones I could replace myself. I was very happy to find out there is 2x 25amp fuses that I can replace myself it a short happens.
-Even under 350W continuous load, the Oscilloscope showed an almost perfect sine wave coming from the inverter. Well within the claimed 3% tolerance
-The fan is actually quiet!
-This thing has HUGE smoothing capacitors in it! even with a 350W load the unit continues to run for 1.5sec after being unplugged!
-Provided cables are garbage
-Slight play between top half of case and bottom half, depending on how one mounts the inverter, this COULD cause a rattle.
-The low battery alarm is specified to be at 10.5V +-0.5V. I found it to be at 12.20V on my unit (1.20V above spec)
-The battery shutdown spec is 9.5V +- 0.5V. I found it to be at 11.60V on my unit (1.60V out of spec)
NOTE: Even at their above spec levels, these two voltage protection systems will be entirely USELESS to a 12V car system (14V when running the engine). A car will not be able to turn its starter motor well before the low battery alarm goes off! I would recommend that this unit not be operated unless the car is running. I will be installing mine permanently in the trunk with a relay and OEM-looking switch so that it CANNOT be on without the car in the RUN or START position.
-The battery shutdown is not very smart, with high loads, the battery voltage is load-depressed and causes the inverter to autoshutdown, removing the load on the battery. This causes the inverter to start back up, but then the voltage drops back below shutoff and the system shuts down. The system ends up switching on and off at a rate of about 1 cycle per second. This could be very harmful to sensitive electronics.
o One quick charge 2.1 amp USB port. Everybody with an Apple iPad can use one of these.
o Four mounting tabs for screwing down in a fixed location.
o Cooling fan does not run if not needed so it can be silent sometimes.
o Compact size and light weight.
o Good power rating sufficient for many common AC powered items that don't have a heating element.
o Pure sine wave inverter makes motors run better than modified sine wave inverters.
o The low battery warning beeper is really loud, and it continues to squeal for five seconds when the 12V power is cut with the power switch on. The beeper also beeps for one second when the power switch is turned off.
o Does not have more than one USB charging port.
o The AC voltage rises slowly (four seconds) when the inverter is first powered up. Changing the load on the inverter also seems to cause the AC voltage to waver noticeably on a voltmeter. The loose voltage regulation might cause problems for some things, but not for others.
o The 12V connection screw posts are 6.2 mm long and 4.6 mm in diameter. With a washer and two ring terminals on the posts, I can only turn down the thumb screw 1 1/2 turns.
o One year Wagan warranty should be longer.
We picked this particular inverter because it has an internal neutral to ground bond. You should always check your local electrical codes before attempting to connect an inverter to your household electrical system, but since neutral is bonded to ground in this inverter, it can tolerate being plugged into a household electrical system. Many cheaper inverters will be permanently damaged if they are connected to a household system with neutral bonded to ground at the service panel due to those inverters having a floating neutral that is typically -60V RMS below ground potential, but that is not an issue with this inverter.
