From the Manufacturer

HT1000 1200-Watt Heat Gun

The HT1000 is an ideal, general purpose heat gun that is suitable for many heating applications ranging from removing paint, old flooring, bending plastics, loosen rusted bolts or thawing frozen pipes. It produces 1200 Watts and 4100 BTUs with a temperature setting of 750° F. or 1000° F. Ideal for DIYers, homeowners, handymen or part-time contractors.

1200-watts/4100 BTU’s of heating power

Wagner’s HT1000 is a basic heat tool designed to apply focused heat for projects such as removing paint, thawing pipes and loosening rusted bolts. It produces 1200-watts/4100 BTU’s of heating power. The HT1000 has two temperatures and fan speeds settings to adjust to specific heating needs.

750-degree F and 1000-degree F temperature setting for various project needs

Great for removing paint, loosening floor tiles, thawing frozen pipes, and busting rusted bolts, this 1,200-watt heat gun performs numerous projects around the house or shop. The ideal, general purpose heat gun suitable for a majority of heating applications, this unit features two temperature settings for a wide variety of applications. This a lower 750-degree F setting is great for thawing pipes slowly, defrosting freezers and more. The 1,000-degree setting strips paint from furniture, loosens rusted bolts and nuts, and makes it easy to shape plastic piping for plumbing to name a few. With 4,100 Btu's those temperatures apply to larger work surfaces farther away from the unit, too. Just plug the gun into any household outlet, turn it on, and select the appropriate temperature to restore furniture, strip funky-colored kitchen cabinets, or remove paint from hard-to-sand wood trim. The gun is also great for heating up plastic film to insulate drafty windows, defrosting freezers, drying plaster, forming and bending plastic pipe, and more!

I bought this knowing that it would be used for many different applications, but the immediate one was to restore the plastic cladding on my Chevy Avalanche which had faded into a dull grey, and stuck out like a sore thumb with the factory black paint. I saw youtube videos that showed that this was far more effective than buying and applying liquid lies.

I couldn't for the life of me find anything in my garage to hang this thing on, so I knew the error of my ways when I could smell my trash bin lid melting. Be sure to have a hook or nail to hang this on, so that you don't destroy the first thing you set this on like me.

It's light, it's really light, I didn't expect it to work, I looked inside the box for the rest of it. But sure enough, it made me a believer. It has two settings, Hot, and Really Hot. I used the Really Hot setting for the plastic cladding, and followed a swirling pattern like my Master Miyagi instructed me to. The results are in the pictures I am attaching to my review. This can easily be used for other plastic parts on various vehicles, but test in a small area which you can really mess up and not get yelled at by the wife because it looks dumb.

A heat gun has many purposes, tinting windows, shrink wrapping/window sealing, removing caulk, loosening glued on items, and as you can see, automotive plastic restoration, done mostly sober. I hope you enjoyed this review, and if you found it helpful, let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate it.

I purchased this heat gun for shrink wrapping. I was worried it might be too powerful, but using this gun on the "low" setting seems to provide the perfect amount of heat for shrink wrap. It seems like it's a great quality gun and should last a long time.

Careful with this thing. It is a good tool. But I recommend not using an extension cord. I did and learned the hard way, I took a door outside to strip the paint off of it. This was a mistake. The plug was lose and the amperage drawn caused the hot prong to fuse itself into the socket. Both tool and extension cord are headed for the scrap yard.

I have a variety of hobbies, and in doing those hobbies the need for a heatgun is always popping up. I might need one twice a year so, I didn't want to spend a lot, but also didn't want the cheapest. I settled on this one due to the reviews/price, and it did not disappoint. The gun has two heat settings, but even the low gets crazy hot if you keep it in one place. The key to using these is changing the distance between the gun and your project to adjust the heat applied, and you always keep it moving. I was using it to strip the old cheap finish from an old guitar, and it worked great for that purpose. Just be sure to keep the gun moving so that the finish doesn't bubble up and burn.

I use this type of Wagner heat gun at work and just recently it stopped working. It looks like we got about 10 years of heavy use from this device before it finally failed, and sometimes it was run constantly for hours at a time. I was very satisfied with the old model and just purchased a replacement, hopefully this one will last just as long.

Update - After receiving the new gun I used it for 15-30 minutes and it stopped working. After taking the heat gun apart and measuring the electrical connections it appears the fuse SF240E blew. I replaced the fuse and the gun started working again, but two weeks later the same issue occurred. I had a great experience with their older products, but I cannot recommend the new ones to anyone. After searching a bit it appears this problem is common so I would invest in a different brand.

I don't normally need to heat something up

But when I do, it better melt faster than butter on concrete in 100 degree weather

I purchased this for the heat shrink cable wraps that I purchased. This guy did the trick. It get's extremely hot, and works perfectly. I love it.

I used it on some acrylic plastic that was left over from a project. That plastic was dripping and bending like a joke. It definitely works well.

Watch your hands, and please protect yourself with some gloves. Not latex gloves- Heavy duty work gloves. Please. You can give yourself burns by just passing over your finger. Be careful!

I have used this heat gun to fix countless xBox 360's. Dissassemble, pull the heat clamps, clean off the old thermal paste, and evenly apply heat to the CPU and GPU for 15 minutes. Repeat after at least an hour cooling, let cool again, reassemble. No more RROD!

For this reason alone, well worth the price of admission.

This worked very well to melt a dolls face for a Halloween prop. I'll probably use it on some of my artwork too.
