These connectors take the place of standard wire nuts on wires from 20 to 12 gauge. They lock tightly onto both stranded and solid wire, the wires cannot be pulled out. The are ideal for luminaire installations where 16-20 gage stranded wire is often attaching to 12-14 solid wire in device boxes. Because the tension can be released completely by lifting the levers before inserting the wires, there's no chance for stranded wire to become frayed or separated by trying to force it into a spring-loaded connector without tinning the strands first. since the individual wire holes have their own levers, the connectors can be put into place on the fixture wires before holding it overhead and connecting it to the premises wiring. This is much easier than trying to use conventional wire nuts in the same application. The connectors are removable and reusable as well, making servicing much easier.

The Wago connectors are also great for use inside of machinery or appliances where the connections might be subject to vibration. These can't loosen from the wires like a wire nut can. Repairs and reconfigurations are easy.

I wish I would have known about these a long time ago... They're so simple to use that splicing conductors is almost fun... And they hold as well as any wire nut... I can't tell you how many times over the years I've spliced conductors together - just to realize I forgot a step - now requiring me to remove the wire nut, which was always a pain... With these Wago's - that's no longer an issue.. They attach and release in 2 seconds... Seriously - these are amazing to work with and even take up less room in your switch box... I now carry just about every size in Wago Connectors and never worry if I have a good conneciton with a 3 or more wire splice... They are more expensive than typical wire nuts, but in my opinion worth every cent... My days of twisting wire nuts are over...

These things are pretty cool. I have always hated wire nuts as they just feel flimsy and unless you electrical tape. I had tried a different (similar) product, but it didn't allow you to release the wires, so they were pretty much one time use. If you had a four conductor connection and needed to replace one item you had to cut all the wires and start from scratch. When working overhead, this is a pain. Only complaint I have is I wish they came in an assortment package (25 x 2 conductor, 15 x 3 conductor, 10 x 4 conductor).

There's a new version of this connector available from Wago: Wago 221-412 LEVER-NUTS 2 Conductor Compact Connectors 100 PK and Wago 221-413 LEVER-NUTS 3 Conductor Compact Connectors 50 PK and Wago 221-415 LEVER-NUTS 5 Conductor Compact Connectors 25 PK The new version is clear so you can check that the wires are properly inserted, smaller so it will fit more easily into tight boxes, and the lever is easier to use. Maximum wire size is still 12AWG solid or stranded. The only downside: minimum wire size is 24AWG (compared to 28AWG with the old version).

I have used many of these and so has my crew for years. I think the biggest mistake people make is that the the lever has an initial easy flip up position and they believe "that's it" and the wire will not fit in. However, In order to insert a wire you must snap it back hard until it locks open. Watch your fingers when you snap the lever closed it can hurt. You can use it like a wire nut meaning that smaller wires typically used in low voltage low current applications can be twisted together and captured in one port to allow the other port to connect more leads. They are not water proof by any means and are not designed as such.

These are great. They make wiring projects go fast and they take up little room in junction boxes. They also allow releasing a wire making re-work really neat and easy. I recently used several when wiring some lighting and outlets. Highly recommended. My initial use was with solid #12 wire. I recently replaced a ballast in a florescent light. For this task I made use of 2, 3, and 5 lever Wago lever-nuts with both solid and stranded #16 wire as well as #12 wire. They made the job much easier than it would have been using traditional wire nuts. I suggest getting a box of the 2, 3, and 5 lever nuts as a start and then replacing individual boxes once you get low on any one style.

Over-priced and downright expensive. But in one of my recent challenges of combining several tiny wires which wanted to spring everywhere, and there was no room for an electrical block, these things worked better then any other non-soldier connector that I had available.

I have several types of wire connectors on my shelf. And up until this recent incident, this was me lease favorite wire connector. It ties for being the largest wire connector on my shelf which is not a wiring block, and it is also the most expensive per connector. (Aside from a wiring block.) But I am always learning new things.

Recently I had several tiny computer wires which I was working on getting connected together. The wires were roughly 22 or 24 gauge wire or smaller, and they were short. My other connectors were not doing the job, and I was loosing valuable length with each attempt. Soldiering them was out of the question without disassembling the complete project. The situation was that there was a rat's nest of wires running everywhere. With these connectors, I simply pried open the levers and inserted the bare end of each wire one at a time. Or in my case this time, I was wrapping several bare wire ends together and inserting them into this connector. (I had a single wire on one side and 2 or 3 wires wrapped together in the opposite side.) If there was a mistake, I simply opened the individual lever and fixed the problem, then closing the lever again on the exposed wire ends, and loosing no more additional valuable wire in the process. I ended up using about a dozen of these connectors on this project.

Lesson learned. I plan on keeping a few of these connectors around on all of my wiring projects.

4 stars instead of 5 because I still feel that these things are expensive.
