This is my second read of Wait Until Dark. In a later Night Stalkers book, we (re)meet Big John's youngest sister. I decided to reread for the backstory. The author does a nice job building layers for the main characters in this book. The foundation of each is well laid, and each experiences some level of personal conflict resolution independent of their romantic counterpart. Well done, you.
This is the third book in Buchman's Night Stalker series. The SOAR unit really exists, the Night Stalkers really exist. Women serving, not so much. Although in light of the new order allowing woman into combat roles the book may be much closer to real life soon.
The military jargon/tactics are fascinating, the DAP helicopter info is interesting, well done (given that I know absolutely nothing about it, it seems real enough.. in fact, after reading the book I feel like I "know" more than I really know about the military, the Army and helicopters.) Just enough technical information to make it really interesting and "real", but not overload. Not easy, really well done.
The players from the first books make both major and minor appearances in this book. Also well done. They fit in, add to the plot and don't detract at all from the main story of Connie and John. I liked their story. I wondered for quite a while if Connie was a bit autistic. Both of them are a bit taciturn, which was a little bit frustrating, but it worked for their story.
This is a slow moving, lesiurely story and that is not a bad thing. It did end with a high octane bang. I almost wish I had not found these books until this one so I could have read them all, one right after the other.
After recently reading a bunch of self-published, free Amazon books, it is so nice to read a well edited, well paced, grammatically correct story.
I look forward the next installment.
The series is about "SOAR", Special Operations Aviation Regiment, that call themselves "The Night Stalkers". They fly Black Hawk helicopters.
Although these are "military" themes I think they will appeal to anyone who likes both drama and romance. Can't wait for the next one.
I really like the way this author writes, he makes you feel your right there in the story. I highly recommend this book and this series.
I think that this series should be on anyone's list who loves a kick butt Heroine and Hero (who knows not to piss her off) while trying to protect her even from herself.
Of course, I read it in one sitting so now I have to wait for the next one!
