This charmingly illustrated boardbook has no words but a wealth of pictures that tell their own story. Using pictures, the book carefully introduces the idea of a new baby coming into the family by involving the existing child throughout the pregnancy until the birth. Parents will enjoy putting their own words to the pictures in a way that their own child will understand. Welcoming a new baby into the family should be a joyous occasion, and every parent will want to make sure their child enjoys the new baby too. * youthinmind.com *

The other books all have more text and busier pictures than this one. Although I certainly greatly simplify the text in all of them as we read, there's no other that comes close to holding my daughter's attention as well as "My New Baby". Its text is very simple - no more than 2 short sentences per page. As I saw she liked this book, I began to substitute my daughter's name in for references to the older sibling, which seems to enhance her interest.
The book does not contain a story line. Instead, it is a collection of snapshots of daily life with a baby in the house: Lunch time, getting dressed, going for a walk, bed time, etc. I think this is one of the reasons that it's popular with my daughter. At her age it can be a challenge to sustain focus for a lengthy story. This book doesn't require that, yet allows her to be introduced to the idea of having a baby around her parents along with her, and how they might all do things together.
If your child is 2 or under and you are expecting a new baby, I definitely recommend this book.
My New Baby is a good book for children ages 2 - 5 who have a new baby brother or sister.
Author of That Baby Woke Me Up, AGAIN!
I've checked out a few similar books at the local library, but they are too detailed for an almost-toddler to comprehend, even if they say they are for that age group.
"My New Baby" book is simple, but it needs to be for young children. The pictures are great and we can point and talk about whats happening. I love it when she takes the book from me and tries to read it herself.
Great buy, in my opinion.
I make up my own words to help my 1 1/2 year old understand because it's a little over his head. BUT the pictures are great and it helps your child understand that the doctor is safe and not hurting mommy. Before this book my toddler did not like the doctor taking my blood pressure. Haha
