A tragic and moving story of a dysfunctional son and society's inability to offer aid. Although many of the ugly facts of prison life should be familiar to readers, this book provides a stirring personal account of the frustrations of dealing with a disturbed son and a system where recidivism rates run 70 to 80 percent. Waiting on the Outside is an eye opening read, one that should help people stop blaming parents. No one could have tried harder than Grodzinsky and as a reader, I can think of various friends who have gone through similar experiences. I think she has done something wise and brave in writing this book. I hope it finds the audience it deserves, for such a book can only increase understanding and compassion for all involved.

"Simply put, it's a very compelling story that tells how loved ones also suffer greatly when someone is incarcerated and the message is very clear and very powerful." Mike Henle, Freelance Journalist, Author, Activist
From the Author
This book was difficult, yet cathartic to write at the same time. It was difficult to bring out into the open what I had mostly hidden, except for close friends, for so long. It was cathartic because I was able to finally let out all those long hidden feelings.
It was written for the purpose of helping others. I cannot tell you how many people have opened up with their own problems to me since I told my son's story. Theirs may not be the exact same story and some of them have even been worse as their loved ones may be gone now, but they all share the despair so many of us feel for their loved ones who are incarcerated. I only hope that they have found some solace in the fact that they are not alone. I know I have found a sense of support and love from those I have met and talked with since writing this story and I thank them for that.
