"Waking to Black is definitely a trip to take. This story will give you the time of day and not only because of the plot and many things happening in there, but because all the frustration, anger, sympathy and many other feelings you may feel for these characters... It was a book I could not keep down and nothing could have kept me from starting the next one in the series!"--Lilly's Book World

The whole feeling while reading this book is so real. Evie is a character with a psychological issue, she tried to give her life away before. This happened because there is way too much pressure for her to take in. People can easily get stress, through families or friends, mostly they are the people we really do care. This book did reflect the reality of a person who suffered from stress. As those people’s close friends or family, we should always stand by their side and support them. We should be guiding them, not telling them what to do or control how their life should be.
I don’t pity Evie, I believe she is a very strong girl who always speaks with a witty mouth and stands up the most protective man in the world. Challenging in every way, beautiful deep within her heart but always afraid to take that small step ahead. Well, I understand that’s a small step in our eyes…normal people, but it’s always a big step for Evie. To love, to trust and to care. Poor little girl meets the knight of her life, hopefully everything will work out in the end, because I seriously trust Adam Black will be the only one who will and can love Evie unconditionally. Can’t wait till Fading in Black(may I ask for an advance copy again?), August seems too far away, I need the book right now! (Anything called book-panic-attack?)
A very well written and emotionally charge book. This book dealt with what some might consider a very difficult subject matter, many a times pushed under the rug but VHLuis wrote this story with a touch of class and give dignity to Evelyn.
Adam and Eve's story is an extraordinary one, despite what both have endure in their past.I can't wait to see where their story take them. VHLuis please don't make us wait too long.
I will definitely be anxiously awaiting the second part to this because I need to know what happens next. Call me optimistic but I'm holding out hope Adam will redeem himself and prove he really does love Eve and that we get to see a stronger more confident Eve! Pretty please! This has the making of a great and epic love story but I need to see the softer side of Adam and a more independent Eve. I'll just have to wait and see where the author takes us next (even if it destroys me!)
This was such a dark and twisty read for me. Generally it's not the type of book I would actively seek out but every once in while (I'm told) that it's good to step outside your comfort zone and experience something outside the norm. Well, Waking to Black is definitely that for me. My feelings about this one are all over the place. Ultimately I liked it but although I couldn't put it down and the story hooked me, I can't get over what an incredible a-hole Adam was. And yes, I currently have a love/hate relationship with Adam, but I still want to read how this all ends. Curiosity killed the cat and all that jazz.
Eve and Adam were both so emotionally messed up but somehow manage to make me root for them. Adam was a complete jerk, unapologetic and arrogant beyond belief but towards the end he sheds his detached emotionless mask and I can't quiet give up all hope that he isn't the giant a-hole he so convincingly protrays. Much like Eve, he is a fascinating enigma. Right when I think there is no going back for him, he manages to turn the tables and share something or do something for Eve that shows he isn't such a prick after all.
Eve was such a contradiction - one minute she was hurting and vulnerable, the next she was throwing caution to the wind and diving head first into situations so reckless it was a bit frightening. Sometimes I wanted to shake her and slap some sense into her but the more I read the more complex she became. I don't condone her actions but for her character, her actions made crazy sense. I dont understand it myself but these two are like a train wreck I can't look away from.
The romance is not the cute adorable kind. It's more of a emotional roller coaster or a really intense and soul crushing game of truth or dare. There is a lot of Adam demanding and Eve submitting. With all the push/pull between them I felt like I got whiplash with every crazy encounter between the MCs. It was basically a yo-yo of ups and downs with these two.
I might have flipped out a bit when I was at 80% and there was still so much left unresolved between them. Serena Welsh. Adam's mysterious brother and that flipping cliffy ending! Arg! This is way I don't do serial books (-_-) Here's hoping Fading to Black will be out soon and I can only hope Adam doesn't do something stupid in the mean time! I'm happy Eve put herself first for a change but I'm beyond nervous that their separation will be riddled with OW and family drama. Two things we already see a lot of in part one. I'll choose to stay optimistic for now and I'm hoping Adam can prove to Eve that he can be trusted, that he does care for her and that he will be there when she's ready to come back to him (this time with no calculated conditions or emotional blackmail). Any other alternative and everything Eve has gone through will have been for nothing. Please V.H.Luis show me an Adam I can actually respect and fall for. I get the broken/damaged Hero thing but I've seen his villianous side and now I need to see him as Eve does. I need Adam the Hero this time. *fingers crossed* Here's to a redeemable Adam and an emotionally stronger Eve!
Would I recommend? Yes but it does have some triggers so it's not for everyone. It deals with a lot of heavy issues and has a really dysfunctional couple, unrequited love, domination and an heroine that likes to be controlled by a Hero who runs hot and cold. This is a serial read so it does end unfinished. Things are left with both MCs going their separate way.
