Waking the Sleeping Giant: How Mainstream Americans Can Beat Liberals at Their Own Game Paperback – April 15, 2014
Purchase options and add-ons
As mainstream Americans, we mind our own business, take care of our own responsibilities, and play by the rules. We know that there is no quick path to personal success or to national prosperity, but the ruling class has come to view the mainstream as largely irrelevant as a political force. In reality, we are the backbone that supports the body politic. We work, pay our taxes, and vote. We complete this cycle over and over, and hope that those in power will follow, and do the right thing. Yet, this is groundless. Something needs to change.
Before we can equip the Sleeping Giant for the struggle ahead of us, however, we must first wake it to the truths facing our country. Waking the Sleeping Giant exposes liberal techniques and teaches mainstream Americans how to counter them to take back the country that our founding fathers made great, and to make it great again.

The authors do not lump all liberals into one package as some claim. Instead, they say most liberals, about 20% of the population, are decent Americans but are either uninformed or misinformed. Only a small percentage of those liberals are hardcore, and those are the ones who control the government and our cultural institutions. They are the ones who know their arguments and positions are illogical, inconsistent, and contradictory, but they simply do not care because their only goal is to satisfy their own whims and their lust for power. Those are the ones who are destroying our republic, and the other liberals facilitate their efforts out of ignorance.
The authors wrote their book in the hope that readers could use the knowledge they provide to convince the 20% of liberals of the erroneous indoctrination they have received from the radical liberals through a biased mainstream media and biased teachers in schools and universities. They also hope that those readers might have the tools to convince the other 80% of Americans of the hypocrisy and duplicity of liberal agendas.
The authors never say liberals are Communists, stupid, or will go to hell, and they never claim anywhere that the mainstream are evil, unAmerican, or godless. People who say these things have either not read the book or did not understand it.
Moreover, the authors never state nor imply that all Americans should think exactly alike. In reality, they believe in freedom, tolerance, and diversity, and they use those words in their normal literal meanings and not just for impact. On the other hand, as the book explains, radical liberals use such terms for emotional impact and propaganda purposes in order to get their way without respecting the normal meanings of the words. Such words mean only what radical liberals want them to mean to manipulate the circumstances.
The only “fault” I found in the book is that it tends to be somewhat repetitious. However, the repetition is actually a benefit because it insures that the main points are repeated enough times that you will never forget them. The repetitious nature of the book could easily be mitigated somewhat by a little better organization.
The main thing is that the book is a must read for every American who truly desires to reestablish the freedom and prosperity our Founding Fathers made possible for us.
Drs. Daughtry and Casselman put together a practical manual on how the far left took control of our country and how mainstream Americans can take it back. The authors are both psychologists who have been involved in mentoring business leaders on leadership issues and now bring their techniques to messaging for Mainstream American activists.
The sleeping giant is Mainstream Americans who are awakening to realize that their country has been stolen by a far left cultural/political establishment that does not share its values. The authors note that there are about 40% of Americans who are self-described conservatives and another 40% of Americans who are uninformed or misinformed that will usually side with the far left who represent the other 20% of Americans. Our job is to educate the 40% of Americans who are misinformed/uninformed, who if they knew the real story, would consistently side with conservatives and disavow the far left agenda.
The book describes how this theft of American culture occurred and dissects the techniques used by the far left in accomplishing this goal. The authors then go through a step by step process on how to take the message away from the leftists and promote mainstream philosophies. The principles of Mainstream Activists as set forth by the authors are:
1.) We are the mainstream and the liberals are the fringe. Act like it.
2.) Face your fears of disapproval and social unpleasantness.
3.) Never, ever fall into a defensive position.
4.) Seize the offensive and stay on it.
5.) Hit hard and sue for peace.
6.) Drive the mainstream agenda through the culture and the government.
7.) Inoculate children against liberalism.
Among these principles, the most important is to remember that we are the mainstream and we don’t have to justify our position. It’s the radical left that has to justify its position. We should always be on the offensive with the use of the three R’s: Recognize the way the left wants to frame the narrative, Reframe the narrative to put the left on the defensive and Refocus the topic to drive the mainstream agenda.
The book is a very easy read, written in plain English with very practical suggestions that can be used in everyday life – from kitchen table discussions to PTA meetings to media interviews. This book is highly recommended for mainstream Americans who don’t understand what has happened to our country and want to do something about it. It should be mandatory reading for all Mainstream Americans.
