Waking Up Blank broke my heart.
Chelsea was apart of a brutal attack along with her best friend Maddie. She wakes up after a 4 month long coma to find out she has no memory of what happened. Also, she can't remember her friends or family.
As she tries to regain some memory, she begins to have snippets of memories from her past.
She tries her best to remember anything and everything regarding her attack. Chelsea wants nothing more than to find out who killed her best friend. But is she really ready to find out who the killer is?
This book was heartbreaking. It hurt to see how much Chelsea went through with losing her best friend. But also, the pain she feels to know that everyone blames her for the death of Maddie.
It is amazing to know that a young woman wrote this book. Sara you will go far in the author world. You did a fantastic job!!!
It was very well written and executed.
Chelsea is caught up in the murder of her best friend Maddie.
The only trouble is she wakes from a coma with no memories of who she is or what happened to her friend
Will she remember what happened or is she just faking?
Friends and family are still not sure is she remembers anything.
The police are looking for the murderer of Maddie but are they still looking in the wrong place.

Chelsea and Maddie were best friends. After meeting at a young age, they were inseparable.
Until one day Chelsea woke up from a coma…and Maddie was dead.
Everyone is expecting answers but Chelsea can’t even remember her own name.
“A thought came to mind; I wanted to go home, but then I grew curious as to what was considered home. These people, these places, and memories they knew, was all a life that I didn’t remember.”
While trying to put together the pieces of what led up to the night her best friend was killed, the small town she calls home wants answers. Who better to point their finger at, then the one girl who was there to witness the crime?
“And I had to shower to get ready for bed, but there was a party of me that died that day. The part that thought everyone would believe I didn’t do it, the one that believed in others.”
After reading the premise of this book, I was sold. C’mon, a girl wakes up from a coma and doesn’t remember a thing? And she’s the prime suspect in a murder? Sign me up.
I guess I was waiting for the big “wow” and it never really happened. I kept waiting for the suspense to kick in, but in reality, I was just reading about a girl relearning how to tie her shoes and getting a “feeling that someone” was watching her.
((Insert side eye glance here))
That and Chelsea’s memory loss was a tad unbelievable. She had to relearn what a television was but she could remember words like simile and audacity? Skeptical.
I wanted more from this. It got a little (ok, a lot) weird near the end and whenever I find unexpected genre jump, I’m disappointed.
Solid effort, but…eh.
5 stars for Waking up Blank by Sara Schoen!! Let me start by stating that the author who wrote this book is only 19 yrs old! She is a great writer who I just know we will be reading a lot more from!
Chelsea, who is only 17 yrs old, wakes up after being in a coma for four weeks. She learns that she was brutally attacked and left for dead. As if that is not enough, she realizes that she has no memory of her life or the attack. The police inform her that her best friend, Maddie, was with her during the attack, and she did not survive. Understandably, Chelsea is stunned by these revelations. However, she is even more stunned when she discovers that the police and every one else in town thinks that she is the one who killed Maddie.
Chelsea knows that she can't trust anyone, and it is going to be up to her to get her memories back and make sure the person who killed Maddie is punished. When she is out and about on the town, she always feels like someone is watching her. She is also involved in some mysterious "accidents". She realizes that she is running out of time. If she doesn't discover the killer's identity, she knows that she will be his/her next victim.
This is a great book with many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end! While there were a few editing issues, the story flowed well.
Waking up Blank was an enjoyable read. The author has a writing style that allows the reader to forget they are reading a book and just fall into the story. I do not read mystery stories often but I appreciated her clues and moments where she derailed my thinking and got me guessing again.
Cons: There are editing errors but the author is working on fixing them and I do not count that against the author or the book. I did wish the men felt more masculine in the book, it is challenging for female authors to write from a male perspective and these guys were just not like the guys I'm used to having around. The story built it's suspense and had you wondering what happened next...it felt like there would be a huge twist...there was a twist, but tit was a little lack luster.
Pros: Great writing style, fun interaction between the characters. Good setting and character development
It's a fun read if your wanting to try out a ya mystery.
Don't even try to start reading this book without some tissue! Yep... that's a warning! This book is so emotionally challenging. It's amazing and well written. The story flow smoothly and will have you turning the pages... But you're still going to need tissue! Highly recommended!
