Why did I wait so long

- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2008This thing worked great for me. I have an old 1990's arcade game in my basement that developed a nasty color problem on it's CRT screen. I mean it looked bad all over...purple and pink.
I got this degaussing ring hoping it would work, and it did wonderfully. It fully restored the screen back to normal colors. A heck of a lot cheaper than the new custom CRT screen that I though I was going to have to buy.
Here's the trick to using it though. Plug it in. Hold it with the ring flat relative to the front of the screen. Turn it on, move it around the screen until the proper colors return, then keep it on and slowly walk away from the screen still holding the ring flat relative to the front of the screen until you are about 10 ft away before you shut it off. This will ensure that you do not introduce any other color issues with the ring by shutting it off near the screen.
This will work with natural gaussing issues. If you have a very strong magnet that gets too close to a screen for too long, you will have a permanent color issue that cannot be fixed. That may be what happened to the other reviewer who said it didn't work for him after he placed speaker and a guitar amp too close to his TV.
Hey, for $65 it's worth a try...cheaper than replacing a screen. Plus then you'll have it around for the next time.
Yes, this is a demagnetizer, so definitely keep it away from electronics other than your TV, and any VHS or audio tape, and I would keep it away from harddrives, and solid state memory stick, etc. This will erase tapes and magnetic media.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2012In this day and age of flat screen TV's and computer monitors, it's almost impossible to find old time television repair tools. This degaussing coil is just that, and necessary to demagnitize, (degausse) a CRT so that the color comes through clear and correct. This coil, made by Waldom, did the trick in short order. I do a lot of older TV repair and restoration, and tools like this are important. Works great, and I'd order another if this one ever breakes, though I doubt that will ever happen, it's so well made. 120VAC. Throws a magnetic field at least six feet.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2014Watched this item come up on SVU the TV show, which said it wiped out a hard drive, but my dad had owned a TV shop back in the day when TV's first came out & when TV's first had color we used these a lot just as one person said, by holding it flat to the screen then swirling it clockwise around the TV screen to get the blotches out of the TV screens usually when customers had put extra speakers or magnets of some sort on or next to the TV. These Degaussers worked wonders and I was glad to see they still made them.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2016In my opinion:
Got this one to replace an old one from the early 80's video game biz days... that was lost in a recent move.
Just the thing for degaussing (de magnetizing) hand tools, vise jaws and the like. These old coils do an excellent job, and are now becoming harder to find.
Just be sure to use it correctly. First remove any watches, cell phones and or other sensitive electronics from the immediate area. Hold the object to be degaussed at arms length from the coil, depress and hold the coil switch. Bring the items and coil together and wave them through/around for a few seconds; then (this is important) separate the two BEFORE releasing the power switch. Basically the same procedure as degaussing old time CRT's. It doesn't take long, 5 or 7 seconds total 'on' time is plenty. (Should the switch be accidentally released in the process, the items may, or may not remain magnetized. In any case, just start over. Why is beyond the scope of a product review.)
Doesn't work well (or at all) on permanent magnets, or for reliably erasing magnetic media (VHS tape, audio/computer tape, hard drives and the like). I've tried a few times through the years sans success... but for hand tools and general shop use, can't be beat.
Review posted 5/13/2016 and will be updated should experience warrant.
