The same goes with her new series, Love and Other Disasters. Walk of Shame is the first book in this series and follows the love story of Ashley and Christopher. It’s more than a romance. It’s the story of self-discovery too.
Dawson tells the story of Ashley who was “dumped” by the guy who she thought was “The One”. Finding herself slinking out of a virtual stranger’s apartment after a wild night of sex, she feels she has hit rock bottom. To find herself, she takes a vow of celibacy and takes off on a plane for Belize, right where the virtual stranger is attending a medical conference.
Imagine her surprise when sun bathing, she looks up into the face of the virtual stranger, Christopher, a doctor who is five years younger and the brother of a guy she tried to seduce.
Jennifer Dawson knows her craft. The story is delightful! You will not be disappointed.
Ashley has started to be sick with herself from hooking up with random guys. In her second year of college, she fell in love with Travis. Travis was a player and no matter what Ashley did, he just wanted a hook up. When he meets a dancer and runs off to Vegas to marry her, Ashley loses it and starts planning a revenge.
The sad part was that she was the one getting screwed. Travis could have cared less. Attending the engagement party of a friend, she meets Christopher, the brother of the groom to be. After the party, they go back to his place and she has the most incredible sex of her life. Ashley does the walk of shame at dawn and decides to change her life and her view of men. Next day she's on a plane to the Caribbean for a week of relaxation and to find herself and give up on men for a year and become celibate. However, this backfires when she runs into Christopher! How can this be happening to her.
Christopher found a real connection with Ashley at his brother's engagement party. Waking up to to an empty bed, was a shock to him when he knew they had some really strong chemistry. Now that he's in an island in the Caribbean for a medical conference, the last person he expected to run into is Ashley.
Will this be an island fling or can he convince her that this could be so much more.
Is gonna be self absorbed w/her "problems" they should at least be real, like illness for self or loved one, being left or abandoned by a man she was actually in a relationship w/,death, something Real!! Not getting bloated or gaming a pound from drinking too many piña coladas ,sleeping around is ok but gaining a pound isn't ... Yeah bite me Barbie!!
Like all Jennifer Dawson novels, once you start this novel, you are sucked in. This novel starts off with a bang. Literally. Or the morning after "the bang" - the walk of shame specifically. Ashley, still feeling the effects of a hookup with a shady player for years, decides to look for love in all the wrong places - one night stands/failed Internet dating, etc. Among these places is an embarrassing yet satisfying broom closet hookup with Christopher, which leads to an all night sexcapade. This last mistake prompts Ashley to take a vacation from life, sex and men to find herself. What develops on that vacation is a surprise she won't forget.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I thought Ashley was smart, sexy and very realistic. In the past she always felt validated when she was with a man or has always lived her life hoping to impress a man so it was refreshing to see a heroine want to separate herself from all romantic entanglements to find the root of the problem within herself.
While I thought Christopher and Ashley were sexy as hell and his emotions and feelings for her were genuine, I did feel the way he came to "reconnect" with Ashley to be a tad too coincidental and convenient. But for the sake of the story I went with it. I also found the ending to be super rushed, but again, as it was a brief novella, I was ok with it. All in all, I thought this was a great novella and an impressive start to a new series. I look forward to more book in this series from this author!
