I was inspired by Chantel Hobbs' previous book, Never Say Diet, so when I was offered the opportunity to review her latest book on walking, I was definitely interested. I am trying to get into the habit of walking regularly. I am not interested in running, but I love to go for hikes, and when I'm out in the woods I always wish I had more strength and stamina. So I know I need to walk more. In Walk Strong, Look Up Chantel challenges us to "walk with God" in a literal way. She outlines a 4-week plan including how long to walk, how often to walk, and what to think about on each walk for a month. She even includes practical tips like how to get the right shoes and warm-up stretches to do. I found it very helpful and encouraging.

I am not finished reading this book yet but what I have read so far has really inspired me. Ms. Hobbs has showed me that I can get the exercise I so desperately need and get closer to God at the same time. Something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I have been looking for the inspiration to get out and walk to start getting healthier.

I have to admit, I've been one of those people that puts faith and exercise in separate "compartments," and never combined them. I'd have my quiet devotional time, and then separate "exercise" time. When I was invited to review Walk Strong, Look Up, I was intrigued by the idea of combining the two. It certainly seems natural enough, but it wasn't anything that I'd ever considered.

Chantel Hobbs has laid out a wonderful plan where she explains the WHY and the HOW of what she calls the "Walk with Him" program, which requires one month to get fully acclimated. Week one starts with three 30 minute walks. Week two also includes three walks -- a 30 minute walk, a 45 minute walk, and a 60 minute walk. Finally, in week four, Chantel has us up to five walks -- three 45 minute walks, one 30 minute walk, and one 20 minute walk. Ultimately, the "Walk with Him" program has you walking 5 days a week, with 45 minute sessions.

In a friendly, conversational style of writing, Chantel shows us everything we need to know to get going on our path to "spiritual" and "physical" fitness. With her Biblical knowledge, Chantel encourages, inspires, and gets the reader thinking about how we can "stay the course" in our walk. With her fitness expertise, she also provides practical tips for choosing the right walking shoe, nutrition, and even great recipes for "power shakes" or smoothies.

At the time of writing this review, I am on week 3 of the "Walk with Him" program. I particularly enjoy the "pre-walk challenge," where Chantel guides the reader into a place where we strive to gain peace in different areas of our life, and well as getting truly connected to God. I've been motivated to stick with the program and "stay the course," as Chantel describes in the last chapter.

The enthusiasm the writer has showed in this book made it difficult to put down. To find a writer who knows how it is to struggle to maintain a healthy weight. Liked the recipes too.

It wasn't written for people who want to walk She kept referring everything to her experience as a "marathon runner"

The basic plot is she miraculously went from overweight to dynamic marathon runner with no explanation!

The idea of combining exercise and time with God was not new to me. I was looking for a way to take it to a deeper level. This book did not do that. It had some good information for someone getting started with a healthier lifestyle, but it didn't go beyond getting started. She gives you a plan for four weeks of trying things out and getting warmed up on the program, but doesn't tell you ways to continue. She does include good foundation information on shoes, stretching, basic strength training, and basic diet.

As another reviewer said, "Too much talk and not enough information." I feel like she was trying to talk you into the starting the plan and then staying with it, but only scratches the surface of how to really marry a walking routine with spending time with God.

"Walk Strong, Look Up" is a book about using walking to become healthier while allowing God to become your workout buddy. A motivational book that not only encourages you to use walking as a way to get fit physically but to use the time spent walking to get fit spiritually.
Broken down into four sections the why, the how, the weight and the win. Written in such a conversational way that you feel as if your listening to the author speak about such things as buying the correct type of shoes, to figuring out your B.M.I. The question and answer section in each chapter actually gives you enough space to jot down your answers or ideas. There are also some great tips about the types of food we should be eating along with a few great recipes that are simple and cost efficient to make. I have actually already tried a few of the shake recipes and found them delicious.
Having really never heard of Chantel Hobbs before I wasn't sure what her book might have for me, but I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of information that I gleaned from reading it. Basically a four week walking program that is motivational and encouraging. I will certainly be looking for more books by Chantel Hobbs.
