I wasnt sure what to expect reading this e-book, but I was glad I bought the book. Max (the protagonist) goes through his childhood when he immigrated to US from Russia (an experience I can relate to 100%) and goes through the interesting little quirks between cultures and how immigrants see things as opposed to native-born Americans.

The best part of the book is his description of the increasing dissatisfaction with his corporate financial job at a major investment bank, an employer that is more like a machine that treats its employees as 'resources', rather than people. This is a familiar story to anyone who has ever worked for a large corporation and has been dreaming of doing something else but hasn't had the drive or courage to just leave.

Max describes his travels across Europe, and a sort of re-birth, a new look and take on life and our relationship to our work and our families and friends. THe book is not only inspiring, its very fun to read and I think it shatters the illusion that many people have, of not being able to switch jobs that they hate.

Another key gem in the book is Max's description of the early failures of starting his own travel business, and the key missteps he made before hitting success with a New York guided tour business. If you are thinking of starting a business or creating a smartphone app in hopes of profits, read this book!

Great book! Very clever and funny. The writer was able to really get his points across and describe a lot of events in such great detail that I was able to see vivid images of these things happening. No one really knows what goes on behind the scenes and he really put it all out there. He listed out all the positives and the negatives, the successes and the failures, didn't try to sugarcoat anything and told it like it is. The book has a lot of great tips for starting out entrepreneurs.

It seems that only yesterday Max was slaving away on Wall Street in a seemingly satisfying role while getting a paid-for MBA at the well-recognized NYU Stearn. It is hard to believe what a transformation he has been through in the past 2.5 years, how much his life has changed, how many insights he has gleaned from the world around him, how many struggles he went through in order to get to where he is today - happy, satisfied, curious, extremely knowledgeable and most importantly happy entrepreneur and owner of a start up in the competitive tour industry of New York.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book - it is rare that I pick up a book and cannot put it down, but it was definitely the case with 'Walking Away from Wall Street'. I related to some of Max's painful descriptions of life at Morgan Stanley, I laughed at the stories he told with such wit, I teared up at some of the challenges he had to face - it was a great read overall!

The best part, especially for someone who is ready to make the next step, is that Max doesn't simply tell his story of ups and downs, he gives RELEVANT examples of business challenges and how to solve them and shares SPECIFIC free or very affordable tools that will help you run your small business.

I highly recommend the book no matter what stage of your life or career you are in - it is a fun read and it definitely makes you stop and think about where you are in your life, what are your goals and what are you doing to get to where you want to be.

Happy reading!

I've known Max for years, through my meetup group, Ultra Light Startups. We share the same experience of leaving Wall St. jobs and going to the startup world. I definitely sympathize with this book and Max's story!

The corporate world may not be a place for everyone, but would you quit a top notch front office job making 6-digit salary, in pursuit of some unrealistic dream of becoming an entrepreneur? Here is a true story of a boy who immigrated from Ukraine 20+ years ago, went to a city college and landed a front office job at one of the top investment banks, a job most people would give their left n*t for. Realizing that in order to succeed in that business, one would need to have a relationship and eventually get married to the job, where days and nights are distinguished by the number of coffee cups in your garbage bin, and where a person's happiness is measured by the amount of money they racked in, regardless of whether it was made ethically, unethically, or plain fraudulently, this boy turned man decides to leave this life behind in pursuit of happiness.
From studying abroad and backpacking through Europe, to going through his life savings faster than Kim Kardashian's wedding, most would tuck their tail between their legs and admit defeat, but the author went from project to project, until he found his true calling. He now runs a top-rated Tour business in New York City.
I congratulate the author in all that he's been through and all that he's accomplished. It didn't sound like an easy task, but one that provided great material for a book that will sure inspire many people.

Max's story is one that I think we can all relate to in one way and another. Many of us have had the experience of being stuck in the daily grind of a job we don't really enjoy but feel afraid to leave behind to try something new. I was charmed by Max's story telling as he describes his childhood experiences of arriving in New York City as an immigrant, his climb up the corporate ladder on Wall Street, and later, his courageous departure from his job as he realized he was not being true to himself. Max's struggles and the circumstances that lead him to his decision to create his own business are truly inspirational. I appreciated the detailed accounts of his failures and successes and enjoyed the thrilling literary ride he took me on as he described how he started his first business, admitted defeat, learned from his mistakes, and gradually shaped a career for himself that is not only brilliantly successful but personally gratifying. While the storytelling is entertaining and fun, you'll also be pleased to find an absolute wealth of practical information of how to go about startling your own business that will put you miles ahead on the path of making a career change for yourself. Great book! Highly recommended.
