Poignant, sublime, tender, lovely, honest, all these words describe this new devotional. What a wonderful combination as we head into this most joyous season.
Barrett's book will make you smile, weep, laugh, ponder (and head for the kitchen when you read the delicious recipes that are included!) If you purchase just one book this season - make it this one. You will not be disappointed.
The practical gem in this book is the family advent celebration section at the end of the book. It walks you through each week with its appropriate candle and an interactive script so that everyone in your family can participate. No more looking stuff up on the internet and hoping everyone can join in. This section guarantees that your family will get caught up in the true meaning of Christmas and the celebration there-in.
Enjoy your copy of "Walking to Bethlehem." It's a treasure.
I didn't grow up with any real sense of Christmas tradition. So, when it came time for us to start our own family, my husband and I chose to do a number of things differently. We went to church and there, among other things, I discovered a WHOLE NEW holiday; Advent!
Now, of course, I know it's actually a SEASON and it's older than Christmas itself..but I'd honestly never heard of Advent before this. The church we attended when our children were younger not only celebrated and taught this tradition but they hosted an event where you could come together with other families and make a FAMILY Advent wreath. We made a mess, made a wreath and left with a booklet to celebrate at home!
We've done this every year (in one form or fashion) ever since.
My children are nearly grown and moved on but there are a few things I hope they take with them when they go. Along with a growing relationship with God, I pray they have a strong sense of connection to the story of their faith that can be richly felt all year long but especially celebrated during this time of year.
I am always looking for a new devotional guide so I am SUPER excited to recommend Katharine Barrett's BEAUTIFUL Advent Devotional book entitled "Walking to Bethlehem".
In this guide Katharine leads readers week by week through the 4 Sundays of Advent leading up to Christmas Day. Each week is marked by a scripted candle lighting ceremony, with scriptures, stories, songs, recipes and activities to share with your children-or grandchildren!
It's a wonderful resource whether you are familiar with the celebration or this may be your first time to take the 4-week journey towards Bethlehem. I'm looking forward to the celebration this year and walking day by day to Bethlehem with Katharine's book as our guide.
