About the author

First and foremost a comic creator, Kirkman has seen groundbreaking success in the adaptation of his comic book titles into major franchises in all forms of content. In 2010, his Eisner award winning series, The Walking Dead, was developed into an AMC television series. It has become a worldwide phenomenon as the highest-rated basic cable drama of all time and is the #1 show on television among the coveted 18-49 demo. The property has also been extended into a blockbuster game franchise, licensing business and ongoing publishing success.
Kirkman also serves as consulting producer of The Talking Dead, the popular talk show hosted by Chris Hardwick that deep dives into each week’s episode of both The Walking Dead and its companion series Fear the Walking Dead. Kirkman is co-creator, writer and producer of The Walking Dead’s companion series, Fear the Walking Dead.
He is also executive producer of the AMC series Robert Kirkman’s Secret History of Comics, and the Korean pre-apocalyptic drama, Five Year. Kirkman’s popular demonic-exorcism comic, Outcast, was adapted, produced and airs on Cinemax.
For the big screen, Kirkman will produce Invincible based on his long-running popular comic book. The project will be written, directed and produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for Universal Pictures. Other credits include AIR featuring Norman Reedus and Academy Award nominee, Djimon Hounsou.
Additional Kirkman comics include Super Dinosaur, Battle Pope, Astounding Wolf-Man, and Thief of Thieves.
Robert is also the Chairman of Skybound Entertainment. Robert, an advocate for creator rights, co-founded Skybound alongside his longtime business and producing partner David Alpert in an effort to ensure creators are able to maintain their intellectual property rights and creative control.

Walking Dead has been around long enough that it would be easy for Robert Kirkman, the author, to have fallen into a major rut. Thankfully, I see little evidence of that. There was a major shakeup in the The Walking Dead, Book 8: Made to Suffer and the book now features a nice mix of old and new characters. In a series that has been filled with death, horror, and action, we find some of the most intense scenes yet in this volume in the form of two characters sitting and talking about what they've seen and done since the world changed. The scene is both heart rending and oddly uplifting at the same time and represents some of Kirkman's finest writing to date.
Walking Dead is one of the best ongoing series in print and these collected volumes are a great way to read the stories. I would recommend the series to anyone who wants a good read, but this specific volume is clearly best suited to those who have already read everything up to this point. If you're new to the series, by all means go check out The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye (v. 1) . For those who stopped at volume 8 or 9 and weren't sure if they wanted to get on board with the new direction my advice is to jump in with both feet and enjoy stories that are both good on their own terms while showing great promise for what is still to come.
The other thing that I love is that the characters act like real people not like a necessary devise used to scare you or for cheap thrills. For example, characters change their minds, are loyal followers and then finally get fed up with things and change direction. They do stupid things that are motivated by emotion and stress rather than stupid things motivated by an author attempting to leave you with a cliffhanger.
Kirkman understands the medium. I only hope that when Hollywood "discovers" him they don't ruin his creativity. His writing is simple and that's the key to his success. Although successful simple writing takes time which other media doesn't have the patience for. Image and the Walking Dead are good partners in this creativity by allowing the story to progress without rushing things along before their due time.
I plan to continue buying these books. I've been hooked since issue 1.
I can't say its bad or a letdown primarily because I couldn't stop reading it. The Walking Dead still has it. I have no problem with it sucking me in and manipulating my sleep patterns. While its not the best of the series, its certainly not the worst and not giving sign of worse to come. Its basically another calm that tells us the worst is yet to come.

As a woman, people think its alittle odd me reading these books, but to be honest i dont normally read things like this, as im not really into comic books at all. It just shows how fantastic they really are for me to read them, everything from the writting and the very realistic drawings. Cant put them down once i start reading them!! These books really are for men and women too!!!
A definate must buy!!
