Its great to hear a band has a promising future. Empire is one of those rarities in this age of forgettable one hit iron ducks. For being their first album, it is a strong effort. It recalls Motown, Prince, and the wierdness of 80s New Wave (electronic) acts like Flock of Seagulls all wrapped up in a new post, "post modern" sound that offers something truely original. Great melodies, sappy, yet relevant lyrics, and wonderful guitars. If this was released in 1982, it would have been a major best seller!

Blame it on poor promotion-"who wants to buy a CD?"-I would have never heard of them had it not been for a friend with great taste. He told me to check out the internet video for the title track and "We Are The People". I was immediately hooked and wanted more. I looked in all my local chains for a copy of the album. No one heard of them, let alone carried them. I ordered a copy on Amazon and havent stopped listening to it! Its not great, but there is much promise. This is a first album. The first four tracks are all perfect. After that, it gets experimental. Thats all fine. It leaves room for growth.

For duo from Australia, they offer a world friendly set of tunes that just might set everyone dancing again. I eagerly await a second release!

Start with their style...these Aussies have some crazy garbs and headgear...the lead singer's voice is so high pitched you think it's a woman singing at times....but when you put it all together w/the synthesizer, it works.
They have my respect as a legitimate group that throw a heck of a show. Between videos, laser light shows, costume changes, and dancers, they have a great way of making intense 80's throwback sounds...
They remind me of the days of Flock of Seagulls and Aha mixed with some Human League and Erasure....
Best tracks are: Standing on the Shore, Walking on a Dream, Half Mast, We are the People (biggest hit)

Music-wise, this is a modern classic, in my opinion.

In terms of this particular pressing, the audio sounds great. Appears to be well-mastered. Clear vinyl looks good. And the packaging is pleasantly robust. Solid gatefold and a really great photo booklet. Only complaint is that the vinyl, for as good as the audio sounds, it has a fair amount of pops on it (about a half dozen total, and yes, I gave it a full wet-wash). It's not an ideal pressing. But overall I'm happy.

Walking on a Dream by the band Empire of the Sun takes you away far, far away! The lead isnger in every way, Emperor Luke Steele' s amazing voice and vision take you away to another world...and you want to go there. Millions of people have seen the amazing videos, "Walking on a Dream", "We are the People", "Standing on the Shore", & "Half Mast", well this CD has those songs, and plenty more "out of this world" music. This CD is an instant classic! A must have for any Emperyan or soon to be fan Empire of the Sun.

On the vinyl quality-- it's very good. 180 gram pressing on clear vinyl. Pretty quiet and the band sounds great on vinyl. There was a bit of noise on the lead-in grooves but goes away quick enough and the music lends itself to you not being able to hear any minor surface noise anyway. An overall successful pressing.

I love it. Even better than I thought it would be after hearing only small portions of the songs. Futuristic and present at the same time. I feel like I now know an important and satisfying secret having found their music.
