ABOUT THIS ECONOHOME 400W PANEL HEATER:
HOW OUR HEATING METHOD WORKS:
Our wall heaters provide heat by convection currents that rise from behind the panel, producing a consistent room temperature. Air is pushed over a convection heating element, allowing warm air to circulate throughout the room.
NEW & IMPROVED HEATING METHOD:
The panel heats the room quickly, while achieving a higher room temperature at the same electrical rating. Our wall mount heaters include a heat reflector, greatly reducing heat loss that would normally be absorbed into the wall. This heater was made with the highest quality components. It conforms to UL-2021 standards, complies with all international safety standards and does not emit any VOC’s!
SLEEK DÉCOR: The exterior casing of this Heater can be painted. We recommend using a no-odor, water-based, no VOC paint of any color to match or enhance the décor of any room.
NO NOISE, NO FANS, NO VENTS! For pet frequented areas, it won't circulate hair around the room!
IDEAL FOR ALLERGY SUFFERERS:
There is NO FAN, which makes our heater ideal for Asthma or Allergy sufferers, and will help prevent congestion & heat irritation, as well as dust accumulation. Perfect for babies, children & adults!
SAVE ON YOUR ENERGY BILL:
EconoHome wall mounted panel heaters are designed to be used for long periods of time at extremely low running cost. It lowers up to 50% of your energy bill & utilizes 0.4 KW/HR., which is less than 1/3 of the energy compared to other conventional space heaters. You may also save money by warming the room of your choice without having to heat the entire house!
HOW TO MOUNT HEATER TO WALL:
- Mark all 4 position holes on the wall from the template.

One out of the four we ordered was sent back due to a flaw in the material and the replacement we ordered was fine.
There was an extremely strong "chemical" smell on the panels and the shipping materials/instruction sheet were permeated with it. The weather was nice so we kept all the boxes and materials on the patio until we made sure the panels were operational. Then we wiped the panels down with a damp cloth, plugged them in and allowed them to off-gas outside for an afternoon. We then painted one side of two of them to match the walls where they were going (low-VOC latex enamel paint, two coats). A roller designed for smooth surfaces worked best for this process.
Then we plugged them in again to off-gas again outside.
Before installation my husband determined where the mounting screws would go into the wall, then cut some thin, reflective insulation to a size that fits just inside the mounting hardware. He finished the edges with reflective insulation tape and attached it to the wall with double-sided tape before he installed the panels.

This insulation reflects heat back into the room and helps prevent heat transfer through the wall behind the panels (in our case, exterior walls).
Once installed in this manner, the reflective insulation is not visible, even from a side angle, unless you intentionally look directly behind the panel.
One of the heaters still off-gassed that original (but not-as-strong) odor when it was turned on, so for the first few days I just turned it on and shut the (bathroom) door with the window cracked and fan on. Now the odor is much fainter and will hopefully grow even fainter with more use. Because of the odor we hesitate to install the other two panels in bedrooms as planned. For now we will just wait until we see if the off-gassing of the first two eventually ceases entirely.
We purchased the LUX WIN100 plug-in thermostats for the two installed units:
These thermostats are easy to use, intuitive to program, and seem to be working well. You plug the thermostat into the outlet, then plug the heater into the thermostat (heater plug only has two prongs). Try to make sure the heater is not too close to the thermostat's sensor.
Because the panels are ideally installed low on the wall, and the plug-ins can be alongside or below the heater depending on installation, you may have to adjust the thermostat several times until you find what temperature setting on the thermostat actually works/feels best in your particular installation scenario.
I am glad we bought these toward the end of summer and were able to unpack and process them outside because of the odor. We never would have been able to be in the same house with them if they had to be indoors with us during the initial phases. Now that we have two panels successfully installed and running on thermostats, I will give it some time and then update this review once they have been in operation for a while.
This unit advertises itself as being adequate for a 200 square foot room. We had considered putting these throughout the house... until I tried it out. It works pretty well in my 40 square foot bathroom, but I can't see it heating a 200 square foot room. It's only 400 watts. The space heaters in my modestly sized living room are 1500 watts, and I'm using three of them. The spare bedrooms are 100 square feet, and they each use a single 1500 watt space heater.
All that being said, while I won't be putting these throughout the house, I'm very happy with it in the bathroom. It takes a while to heat up, but I love that it is out off the way. I had to run a new electrical outlet to the location I wanted to install it. I put in a two-gang outlet, and paired it with a timer switch (ASIN B079NHNB9Y). When I am getting ready to shower, I hit the 60 minute button and forget about it. I used wiremold for the cord for a nice finished look. There is a warning printed on the panel. In another review someone cautioned against trying to remove that. I'm weirdly fond of professionally printed misspellings, so I don't mind it. (Watch out for high "temparatures.") It's paintable, so you can paint over that warning.
The listing for this item seems to change over time. When I bought mine, there was an option to purchase it with or without the thermostat switch. I purchased mine with. The without option is not there at the time of writing this review. I've also noticed a number of reviewers talking about rigging up some sort of heat reflective shield behind the heater. Mine came with such a shield.
Many reviewers mention the stink. When first opening the box, the chemical smell is overwhelming. I would recommend storing this in the garage or on a back porch for a couple of weeks. I ran my heater non-stop for two days with the bathroom fan on before the stink was reduced to a tolerable level.
I've noticed a lot of reviewers mentioning cracks. The instructions are very specific about leaving the mounting posts loose, making sure the panel mounts freely onto the posts without force, then tightening down the posts. They sell a "safety cover" for this heater separately, so if mine ever does crack, I will just buy that cover for looks.
So mostly, I am happy with this purchase. I took off one star due to the 200 square foot claim, and it doesn't heat quite as fast as I would like. The instructions were pretty well written and easy to follow. In the end I'm glad I bought it.
