Format: Paperback
The Walnut Man is a novel about a man who learns to say good-bye to his childhood nightmare thirty-five years after a stranger helped him escape his emotionally and physically abusive parents. Author K.C. Mace (a psychologist who treats adults who were abused as children) offers the reader a moving perspective on suffering and healing, in a setting that is easily related to. More than three million children are reported each year to child protective service agencies as victims of child abuse or neglect. The Walnut Man is a fictional story of abuse and recovery that is also very effective in articulating the life affecting consequences and therapeutic resolutions to a major and pervasive social problem.

This is a beautifully crafted story, that left me with feelings and thoughts that haunted me for some time. It is about the evil of parental abuse and the spirit of a fifteen year old boy who lived to rise above and beyond the constrictions his parents imposed on him. It is a story that successfully blends psychology and spirituality into a tale of hope and triumph.

This is such a refreshing book, that reads like a Salinger story. The author has done a masterful job of presenting a very complex problem through the senses of a fifteen year old boy who finds the resources to survive the evil of parental abuse. His message offers a path of healing for any of those who have experienced abuse in their development. Bravo.
