Here’s the short version: if you’ve found your way to this review, just buy the book.
Rarely have I devoured so eminently readable a book that has given me so much enjoyment – and I’ve read a lot of wonderful books. Jim Denney has captured the essence of what makes America great in telling the story of an icon and his dream, a man who had a vision, as he watched his children at a playground, of a world beyond imagination where parents and children could delight together under the magic spell of a true wizard.
Walt Disney failed in business twice (!) before he achieved the extraordinary success that only in retrospect seems preordained. This is the fascinating account of his dogged struggle – against great odds and much, well intentioned, professional advice – to create Disneyland. With painstaking research, Denney walks us through the fruits of that labor and carefully details which elements of the famous landmark today still reflect the master’s hand. In the process, he provides valuable tips for getting the special treatment that Walt Disney himself would have wanted all his guests to enjoy that is still available a half century after his death. He debunks all the naysayers with stories which brought tears to this reader’s eyes on several occasions. By the time you get through Chapter 10, you will want to shake the author’s hand and thank him personally. I nearly wore my wife out with, “Honey, you’ve got to hear this.”
This book is a gift. And if by any chance you are a Ray Bradbury fan, you will be particularly gratified to see Ray and his insightful comments appear throughout.

Disneyland in Anaheim, California, is the only theme park in the world that literally has Walt Disney's fingerprints on it. He lived in his apartment over the Disneyland Fire House for weeks at a time. He was planning Disneyland years before he released his first feature film, Snow White. He was focused on improving the Park in the final days of his life. Disneyland was truly his passion. Before Walt died in December 1966, he promised that Disneyland would keep changing and continue growing — and it has. Walt also promised that the optimistic, adventurous spirit of Disneyland would never change — another promise kept. WALT'S DISNEYLAND uncovers those parts of Disneyland that have remained essentially unchanged since he left us. If you know where to look, Walt’s pristine, unchanged Disneyland is still there, waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. By uncovering the hidden history of Disneyland, this book will make your next Disneyland adventure a richer, more enjoyable, more meaningful experience. Author Jim Denney (the co-author of the classic Disney biography HOW TO BE LIKE WALT) takes you on a tour of Disneyland as it is today — from Main Street USA to Tomorrowland — and shows you where to find Walt's original Disneyland of 1955 to 1966. It's a journey into the heart and soul of one of the greatest innovators of all time, Walt Disney.

Looking into yesterday to grow tomorrow even further. The author did a tremendous job highlighting the hidden mysteries of what made Disneyland so special. 5 stars to the author and 6 stars in the quality of this book. I learned so much more than I already knew. New ideas, new strategies, theme park ideas, vision, risk, concepts I had never heard of were in display in this novel.

I only gave this book a 5 star rating because I can't give it a 10.
This is easily the best book ever written of the park, and I say that because I am a Club 55 member and know quite a bit about it. Brings back a lot of memories, plus even after working there for 42 years, I still learned a lot that I didn't know.
I can't wait to go back and search out all the little things that Jim said.
Years ago I was asked about what one word would describe Watt. Visionary, storyteller, inventor, mentor, etc. But my answer was very simply in one word "Genius".

Just finished Walt's Disneyland. It is a keeper. I have read a good number of books about Walt Disney and his theme parks. This book concentrates mostly on how Walt's persistence, foresight and creative genius conceived and built Disneyland and it's many ongoing attractions. Very informative and entertaining.

I am not an avid reader, but do love Disneyland and the history of the park. After watching "The Imagineering Story" on DisneyPlus I wanted to find additional content about Disney+Disneyland. I found this book and after reading the reviews I was sold. The book is a quick read that keeps the readers attention.
The books details out the original lands and the history of several rides as well as how they have changed through the years. The author notes things that remain from "Walt's" Disneyland and should bring excitement to your next visit to Disneyland.
The story represents what Disneyland has meant to me and what I hope brings to others.

What a fun read! I'm so glad I bought this book. As someone who has been a Disneyland fan for nearly 40 years, I sometimes feel there isn't more for me to learn, but Jim Denney has proven that isn't so. This book is very easy and enjoyable to read, and it makes me appreciate even more what's left of Walt's legacy--the things he actually oversaw in his lifetime. I recommend this book for casual and hardcore fans alike.

This book was fun to read because the author delves into the effects that Walt Disney had on Disneyland throughout the years. He pointed out great attractions that were actually done by Walt and that are still found in the park today. I have been to Disneyland many times before and now I cannot wait to go again because of the new information that I got out of this book.

I did enjoy reading this, though it will be best for avid Disney fans as the author isn't impartial by any means. Most of the information I already knew, but I am also a heavy reader of all things Disney. This is a great stroll down memory lane for the early park, Main Street especially. He does try to turn Walt Disney into a bit of a plaster saint near the end, and gushes quite a bit, and I found the organization of the material a bit spotty, but overall, it's worth the time and price.

Great addition to Disney library

This is a great book , even if you already have a large Disney library. I found new information and enjoyed reading every page. It inspired me prior to my visit to Disneyland and I took the book with me and consulted it at night back at the hotel- then the next day I went looking for things the book said were there. I managed to stump the cast members and a janitor by asking for directions to an item in the book. No one knew the answer,so back to the book I went. A fun read if you are a fan of Disneyland, Walt Disney and Park history.

Great book for anyone who has / will visit Disneyland. I bought it for my wife pre-second visit. She has been entertaining me with Disney Trivia.
