The story is aimed primarily at young adults but older ones can enjoy it too because the adult characters are portrayed well. They provide most of the humor in the story, and they get to share many exciting adventures along with the teenagers. The story also provides a number of lessons such as, bullying is bad, revenge is also bad, forgiveness is hard but neccessary, and family love will provide the strength to endure any hardship to save a loved one.
Here's a good quote from the story:
"The spell she created the night before had already begun. The clouds in the sky became thicker and darkness increased greatly with silent, flickering lights of lightning. It was too late to put a stop to it, and no one could change it, not even Ms. Biddock. She walked out onto her balcony and held her arms out wide, levitating carefully over the railing."
And another good quote, this one is about Rena's first night on Wanderamid:
"In Errantry forest, Rena and Avanna slept peacefully on a patch of soft green grass, resting...on folded arms...It was the heart of the night and a rare light wind traveled on Rena's path once more. It carried voices through her shielded ears, whispering into her resting mind, comparing to the mystical night on Whisper Lane. " You must hurry before it's too late.""
I recommend Wanderamid's Crystal Ball to anyone that likes an imaginative tale of magic.
The places and descriptions are imaginative and keeps your attention. The characters, although from different worlds, impact a feeling of love, caring, understandings, and respect...all except for the evil character that is.
The story i serious yet comical. You are drawn into the fantasy yet still feel at home. Each page makes you want to read more. The end leaves you to your own imagination. However, I hope there is a sequel. It's a great wholesome book with a mixture of real life situations and fantasy. I recommend this to people of all ages. This is definitely a great book to read to young children.
Rena is an inquisitive character with a big heart and readers will be drawn to her personality. I also found the tunnel travel with the crystal ball to be an original concept that keeps the story fresh and sets it apart from other young adult fantasies. The hidden truths about the unique characters also adds to the excitement and suspense.
I recommend picking up a copy of Wanderamid's Crystal Ball. It's one young adult fantasy you won't want to miss.
