An appealing and offbeat story about a young woman who flies a small airplane to make deliveries in an island chain off Japan, and who inherits her grandfather's obsession with a legendary island that has been sighted at varying locations throughout the North Pacific. Fine artwork and an unusual setting add to the interest. The author also does a good job defining the character through her interactions with old friends. Only downside: I'm not sure the premise can lead anywhere believable in future volumes. Still, very enjoyable so far.

Wandering island is different from most manga I have read. The art is as unique as the story itself. I highly recommend this book! On a parental note I would hold off on letting your young ones read this one. This book contains partial nudity of the main character Mikura Amelia. No details are drawn, but not much is left to the imagination.

This manga has a Studio Ghibli-like feel to it. Strong stubborn female lead who flies seaplanes and searches for a mysterious floating island (al la Castle in the Sky). The island looks like a circle of buildings that are all attached with towers here and there. Looks just like LaPuta in a way. Looking forward to more of the adventure.

A breath of fresh air to my manga collection. The background detail put into the story is unbelievable and part of the story's attraction. A must read for any true fan of Japan's small island subculture. I lived in the Ryukyu's for four years and could not help but being transported back while reading
"Wandering Island ".

Great art and intriguing story, ends on a cliffhanger though. After googling I couldn't find any confirmation of a Volume 2, which I hope there is one so I can know what happens.

This was a lot of fun to read. The art is amazing, and the only real gripe I have with the story is that it's not yet been continued.

A great and fresh manga!

Amazing graphic novel in the great Tsuruta style! The opening of the story is in colour and the rest of the book is in b&w! The thing, that impressed me most was, that the book's printed in the traditional Japan-reading-format - from right to left!
Since the original Japanese version is from 5 years ago and Tsuruta publishes a novel every 10-12 years, I don't think we'll see Part 2 before 2021 year!

Excellent art paired with good writing

Tsurata Kenji's Wandering Island, volume one, was a breath of fresh air. I liked the art and how the story unfolded, felt entranced by the sea and the mystery surrounding the eponymous island. This reminds me of a good read on a rainy Saturday as a kid, when hiding myself among the pages of a story was all it took to have the hours fly by in no time! While a bit notorious for taking his time in producing new material, this book is well worth the wait for the next volume!
