Wanderlust isn't Roni's first attempt but it was written before.
Before her fabulous erotic romance series, Loving on the Edge.
Before Off the Clock, the first book in her new Pleasure Principle series.
Or even her RITA award winning novella, Nice Girls Don't Ride.
Before she was RONI LOREN.
And, it shoots the above theory all to hell.
What always impresses me about Roni's books is her ability to maintain her distinctive voice and style while creating fresh and unique characters. Roni fans find comfort in her voice but know that each character is like a new friend, inviting the reader into their world.
Even though this was written before everything else, the snark, wit and nods to popular culture that Roni is known for are all still there. Even allusions to other well-known characters, (Hello, Pike from Call on Me) are included.
As well as so many intriguing layers of conflict and deeply complicated hero and heroine that keep the pages turning.
I finished this book in one sitting. It is fast-paced, funny and the love scenes are definitely inspiring. I'd happily recommend it as an introduction to Roni's work or an addition to an already happy fan's collection.
I'm not, in general, a reader of erotic romance, but I'm delighted that I somehow learned about Loren and started reading hers. I always try to read Loren's books as soon as they're available. I know they'll combine complex, three-dimensional characters, emotional journeys for those characters, hot sex scenes (blunt without being crude), and the essence of romance. This book is no exception.
I'm also glad to see Loren moving away from dependence on the BDSM context of her Loving on the Edge series, much as I've enjoyed that series. She doesn't need crutches, and her work deserves a broader audience. In fact, I hope she'll move beyond erotic romance into other sorts of romance, at least.
At one point, I thought I saw a particular plot twist coming, and was a bit disappointed at how obvious I thought it was. I should have trusted Loren more: what she did was more subtle and realistic.
Unique, loved that despite drama on both sides they are both very grounded twenty somethings and Lex, while a seriously HOT rock hero, is more solid and grounded (for most part) than "typical" rock star heroes! Seriously AWESOME HEA ending!
