That aside, it has a spectacular story line, lovable characters, and the author has somehow managed to keep the romantic drama from being overtly depressing (a difficult, yet greatly desired feat). In spite of the lackluster editing, this is one of the best books I have read in the genre.
A different world from the Glyph mage series and yet equally or better developed. Characters are better and even somewhat better!
Someone might ask why he gets so much power when others get so little/average or its otherwise rare in the world - maybe it will be answered in one of the (hopefully!) many sequels!
Unfortunately there is a huge problem with the book, the authors atrocious use of punctuation. In particular quotation marks. They appear randomly throughout the paragraphs. With only a loose correlation to when people start or stop talking. Makes the book hard to follow along as characters transition from thinking, to speaking, to descriptive text willy nilly.
To illustrate this I reproduce the fifth paragraph from the prologue in its entirety. Not the worst example by far, but it is available in the free sample so I feel ok including it here.
“There is that,” responded Greggory in his “the job is never done” voice. I have the process as
well as both of our research tucked away in the library where no one would think to look. Tomorrow
we can prepare a presentation for his majesty.”
