This is story of these three. It is also a story of faith. But also about how you overcome what you know is wrong but don't want to give up. Virginia has to fight her anger at not being able to have Charles, knowing she shouldn't want him but not willing to accept this. She doesn't want to ask God to help her through this although she should.
All too often, we want God's help but only if it gives us the answer or response we want. Even when we ask him to do what is best for us, we don't want to accept what he gives us when it is not what we want.
Read to see how this story resolves itself, with God's help.
There are so many parts to this book that I really loved, but in my opinion, it just took too many unbelievable detours.
So for writing style and originality, I’d give it 5 stars. For the budding romance, I’d give it 4.5 stars. But the whole starting a school thing with the entire town against her all the while chasing down cattle rustlers? That was too unbelievable to me, even for fiction. Chloe’s writing is SO good, that her books deserve volumes and it was like those volumes were squeezed into an hour TV movie script.
I could almost write an outline of it. So, please, pick a direction you want the story to go...the romance...the saving the girls, the building the school or chasing down cattle rustlers, but not ALL of them...
I hate to say anything bad because the writing style is so good...the plot just got tied to a runaway horse and she lost me... I would still read another book by this author though!
This book had a great plot, or shall we say several great plots. Jesse, it turns out, is leading a double life, maybe even a triple one and it is exciting to see it play out. They are all in dangerous territory where soldiers and innocents get killed almost daily. Virginia is a courageous heroine who never lets things get her down. She is thinking every minute and hanging in despite all odds. She is lovable, loyal, and pleasant. Jesse is a jokester and a goofball. Could she ever love him?
This plot is fabulous, keeping the reader guessing at every turn. Unlikely, but possible, and much of it is flat out history, the way things happened back then, on the frontier. The personalities were interesting and worked well within the plot. I enjoyed this book with no reservations. I totally recommend it.
