This is an excellent book and great historical reference, I have the entire series, wish more volumes had been published, as the available volumes only scratch the surface of all the types of aircraft used during the second world war. You need good eyes to read these books, as the books are very compact and the print is small. Well worth the effort, though.

Volume 8 again features expanded and more comprehensive coverage of each aircraft type, and the result is infinitely better than the excellent earlier volumes. The depth of information is significantly greater than contained in those first volumes.

This work, the second of 4 covering bomber and reconnaisance aircraft, concludes the coverage of French machines and makes a start on those operated by the Luftwaffe. With copious illustrations (B&W) and plenty of narrative and technical detail, this publication (first published in 1967) remains close to definitive. There are plenty of lesser-known types to enjoy here, with Volumes 7 and 8 demonstrating how a nation could and consistently did put into service a range of particularly ugly (or strange looking if you want to be charitable) aircraft types. Full marks to France for that effort.

So if WW2 aircraft happen to be your bag, do yerselves a big favour and chase this one up - it will not disappoint!

According to the author's Introduction, volume 7 features expanded and more comprehensive coverage of each aircraft type, and the result is infinitely better than the excellent earlier volumes. The "bigger and better" refers to this aspect of the publication. The book itself is dimensionally small.

This work, the first of 4 encompassing bomber and reconnaisance aircraft, happens to include many of the lesser (or virtually unknown) types fielded by a range of nations from Australia to France. With copious illustrations (B&W) and plenty of narrative and technical detail, this publication (dating from 1967) remains close to definitive. A special bonus for me is the detail relating to the CAC Woomera, about which little has otherwise been published.

So if WW2 aircraft happen to be your bag, do yerselves a big favour and chase this one up - it will not disappoint!
