From a cold primary in New Hampshire to the victory party in Little Rock almost ten months later, The War Room takes viewers on a revealing, behind-the-scenes journey to the White House. This insightful look into one of the shrewdest, funniest, most sophisticated political machines ever takes on new meaning in light of subsequent revelations concerning President Bill Clinton. At the center of The War Room are two men who guide Clinton's presidential bid through all of its turmoil: James Carville, the fiery, charismatic, expletive-spewing Cajun who manages the campaign with a mixture of Southern charm and unrelenting passion; and George Stephanopolos, the brilliant, handsome Rhodes Scholar who, as communications director, calmly but surely mobilizes Clinton's staff to take the presidency. These two masterminds ingeniously maneuver the campaign past the controversy of Gennifer Flowers and the draft-dodging issue through such events as the Democratic National Convention, the debates with George Bush and H. Ross Perot, and the final, nail-biting days leading up to the election itself. The War Room is a compelling and enlightening look at two remarkable men and the monumental effort and determination that is required to conduct - and win - a political campaign in the modern age.

As always, Criterion has done a beautiful job with the picture and sound, greatly improving upon the original. No, it's not in HD, but I recall the original vividly, which by today's standards looked as though it was shot in Super 8. The features are fascinating as well. For political junkies, "The War Room" is a must-see.
You'll notice that there are dozens of negative ratings by Christians who didn't read the film's description but bought it anyway. It would have been rated much higher if those who screwed up didn't blame their mistakes on everyone but themselves.
when I use it to supplement the audio I can't decipher (movie audio is not consistent due to the real environment in which it was captured), I had to rewind numerous times to read what was going to be said 30 seconds later. To Amazon's credit, they replied immediately to my email and promised to look into it. Thus 5 stars for the movie and 5 more stars for Amazon's customer service.
"The War Room" contains fascinating behind-the-scenes footage of the campaign's early stages in the New Hampshire primary, when many thought that the Gennifer Flowers and ROTC draft letter issues would drive Clinton from the race. The self-proclaimed Comeback Kid survived the Granite State's primary and went on to win the nomination.
The film continues on through the Democratic convention that year in New York City and into the fall campaign and the debates, when strategists James Carville and George Stephanopoulos ran the War Room and gained national renown in the process. Many forget that Bush pulled to within 41-40 in a CNN poll less than a week before the election, and this superb documentary closes by recalling both how nervous the Clinton campaign was in the final days and the relief and celebration of its staffers when their candidate did hold on to win. Even as a conservative Republican, I found "The War Room" interesting and well worth watching.
