This is an excellent book, shocking in its revelation of political mismanagement of a recent past which, by all accounts, is still how these things work today. What I didn’t like was the first paged which almost made me put the book away. The book starts by explaining the historical background to the cold war in such a manner that I thought this book is meant for youth without any prior knowledge of the issues at stake. Fortunately, this is not the case and I can recommend it to everyone. “The War State” is well written, exciting to read and the story is well documented. It should be read by every American tax-payer and voter.
If you wish to be an informed voter or just a more informed citizen, reading such books as this one will help bring you around to becoming a bit better enlightened. Read, recognize, respond. All comes in time.
I would recommend the book to students and anyone interested in political science. I sincerely whish for it to have been available when I was at University; it would have made things clearer for me.
